Super User Wayne P. Posted February 27, 2008 Super User Posted February 27, 2008 A recommendation for Fireline: with it's negative traits of fraying and color loss, it's good quality is when used on closed face spinning reels. The relative stiffness of the line seems to preform the best in that application. I have several set-ups for novice anglers rigged with Fireline-mostly in the 14#. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted February 27, 2008 Super User Posted February 27, 2008 I guess I'm not as particular as a lot of fishermen are but I'll buy Stren superbraid , Suffix braid , and Power Pro when ever I get a good deal on them. I think all three lines are good quality. Quote
Joel W Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Been using Power Pro for years and really love the stuff. I usually get two years out of a spool before changing it. As I'm starting to change a few reels this off season, I'm moving up to Sufix Braid as I've heard only good things about it. For one thing it's a 6 strand braid while Power Pro is made out of 4 strands. Will see which one I like better over the course of the season. Quote
HesterIsGod Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I also usually get 2 years out of each spool of spiderwire. Quote
Pencil Pusher Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Another vote for Gorilla braid. I also have reels spooled with Spider Wire, Fireline and one with power Pro. The only one I really don't like is the Power Pro. Quote
jignfule Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Another vote for Gorilla braid. I also have reels spooled with Spider Wire, Fireline and one with power Pro. The only one I really don't like is the Power Pro. I like power pro Quote
A-Rob Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Tuf Line is a good alternative to Power Pro...I find it very similar I use both Quote
lou304 Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 Sufix or Power Pro, kinda torn. I like both. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 27, 2012 Super User Posted March 27, 2012 Suffix is the only braid I will ever use. I even have had it on a few reels two years now and it looks just as good as the day I put it on, and I fish somewhere 3-4 times a week. Harshman I don't fish anywhere near as much as you do. My Sufix turned a very light olive color after just a few uses. I'm using 40#. Which lb. test are you using? Maybe it makes a difference although I don't see how that could be possible. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 27, 2012 Super User Posted March 27, 2012 Stren Superbraid casts great and is ultra sensitive. I am having a few problems though. One, the line floats and doesn't allow a weightless worm or fluke to fall as much as I like. Also, when using braid on a spinnerbait or crankbait, it feels like it will rattle your hands off! It's so sensitive! The wobble of the willow leaf blades or a bandit crankbait will rattle your teeth while using braid. I don't mind feeling all the little 'bumps' when I fish a worm or pig-n-jig, but not baits that put off constant vibrations. I'm not sure which line would be best for weightless worms, spinnerbaits, and cranks. I bought a 6' MH Lightning on close out at my local Wal-mart and a Daiwa Procaster when TW was closing them out for my grandson. I spooled it with 12 lb. Big Game mono. Reel was cleaned only. First time using it I thought something was wrong with the reel. Was throwing a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait. Then I realized what I was feeling was the 'thumps' of the blades. Literally felt like the reel was moving in my hand. Slowed the retrieve way done and it smoothed right out. If braid is worse, then I can see why you might need to visit your dentist after a day of throwing a spinnerbait with braid. Quote
gonebassin Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Went and did some fun fishing recently and was fishing a lake with a lot of Largemouth. I had a spool of spiderwire and put it on a spinning reel but did not like it. I mainly use powerpro but wanted to try it something different. My question is, Has anyone tried much of the Seagar Kanzen braid, and if so, how would you compare it it to some of the other braids out there on the market. Also looked at the Daiwa Samarui braid and am curios to some of your responses. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted April 2, 2012 Super User Posted April 2, 2012 Original power pro! Quote
TourPT Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 FX2 is fastly becoming my favorite. Still use and like Sonic Braid and Power Pro also. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted April 6, 2012 Super User Posted April 6, 2012 Original power pro! And some say it's outdated.........I say it all fishes pretty much the same. I mostly fish PP, sometimes I use Fins. I may be a little particular to a certain rod or reel, but when it comes to lines, they all work fine for me, braid or otherwise. Quote
0119 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Even if you discount all the counterfeit PP that came in from china a few years back, theirs still too many experienced people who have had mid line breaks with PP. With so many lines with fresh technology costly just a couple dollars more, why use it. Quote
TourPT Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 For those posting on Stren Super Braid, can I ask where your finding it? It was my favorite Braid until Stren discontinued making it. Quote

ROCbass Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 For those posting on Stren Super Braid, can I ask where your finding it? It was my favorite Braid until Stren discontinued making it. They're finding it in 2008. This is an old, recently revived thread. Check the dates on the posts prior to this page. Quote
