Big-Bass Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 What is your favorite Shimano baitcaster? Please don't just vote on just looks but your overall use of the reel, durability, and such. Thanks. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 I voted for the 50Mg. I have 4 of them and I fish with them most often. I also have a Chronarch 100BSV, a Calcutta TE200DC and a Calcutta 400B. A lot of guys love their Calcuttas, but they are not on the list. Ronnie Quote
Super User FishTank Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 I love my Calais 201A. It's a luxury to fish. Smooth and super strong. My only complaint is the weight but your only talking about an ounce more than most other reels. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 i voted for citica because that is the only shimano baitcaster i've used, but i love it! Quote
The Next KVD Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Good ole green Bantam Curado's. They are practically irreplaceable, uncomparable, and indestructable! My next fav. is the Citica D. Quote
fathom Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 calais 100a...the only downside is its weight but, the rest of the package more than makes up for it. the core would be a close second, if listed. Quote
Solo Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 As Alpster noted: not listed, but my favorites are Calcutta/Conquests Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 My favorite is not listed either, but I KNEW it wouldn't be before I even opened this up. My favorite is the Castaic. Quote
bassdocktor Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 The old Curado B. Its really the only Shimano baitcaster I've used but I've played with a bunch of them. However, the Chronarch and Calais both seem like they'd be really great. One nice thing about the old Curado is the price wasn't too bad on those. Durability was really good too. I've had several for over 7 years and no problems. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 16, 2008 Super User Posted February 16, 2008 Castaic is excellent but I have more Curado's so I voted for the Curado's. Quote
KevO Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I didnt vote because the only shimano baitcaster I have wasnt listed. Its a cardiff 200a, but I love it. And for $90 it was worth every penny. Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 I have the old Curado B. And I LOVE IT!!! I've used the Citica and I'm getting one in a week or so. IMO you can't go wrong with SHIMANO!!! :)Out of the ones you put up there.....Curado B. I've heard alot about the D but I haven't tried it. Quote
GitRDoneIke23 Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Good ole green Bantam Curado's. They are practically irreplaceable, uncomparable, and indestructable! My next fav. is the Citica D. Yep!!! Quote
Pencil Pusher Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Can't vote, no Calcutta's and no Cardiff's. Quote
DaHorns Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 I'm a big fan of the Shimano Curado B series reels I have a few of each of the 200 size (200B, 200B5, 200B38, & 200SF). I have tried the new Curados and am not impressed at the $200 price point, YET. I have picked up a couple Citicas and have been happy with them. I use them in both salt & freshwater and haven't had any issues. I have looked at the Core a couple times but it's just too far out of my budget right now. Great topic....... Quote
Just_Old_Fisherman Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Didn't vote since my favorite is the one I have in my hand at that moment. Have 4 Citica's. 1 Curado and 4 Cruxis---all good reels and never any problems. Quote
heathen Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 50mg from that list, had the Calcutta's been listed and especially the 200GT I would have voted different. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 I love my Calais 201A. It's a luxury to fish. Smooth and super strong. My only complaint is the weight but your only talking about an ounce more than most other reels. I have one with the handle on the "correct" side. : This reel is built like a tank with the features of a Lexus. I have mine saddled to a St. Croix Legend Elite EC70MHF. I don't consider the rig heavy because it is well balanced. I like them all, but this has become my favorite. 8-) Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 Don 't have a favorite, I like all my Shimanos ....... just as I like all my Daiwas. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted February 19, 2008 Super User Posted February 19, 2008 Chronarch 101SF. I really miss the old Chronarchs. Very comfy to fish with. Quote
SCBASS Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 The green curados because they are a great reel for the money. Quote
