Hmmmm......rod for Chronarch 51 Mg?

Hey guys,

I would like your opinion on a couple things if ya don't mind. As of right now I have:

1) 6' 10'' Heavy, Extra Fast Shimano Crucial paired with a Daiwa Zillion 100SHLA (7.1:1). I plan on using this combo for pitching weighted worms into heavy cover.

2) 6' 6" Med- Heavy, Extra Fast Shimano Compre paired with a Shimano Curado 101D. I plan on using this combo for spinnerbaits.

3) 6' 6" Medium heavy, Fast Shimano Crucial paired with a Shimano Saros F 2500. I plan on using this combo for skipping Senkos and such.

4) 6' Medium, Fast Shimano paired with a Shimano Sahara 2500. I plan on using this combo for un-weighted/ lightweight plastics and such.

I also have a Shimano Chronarch 51 Mg that is "rod-less" right now, which brings me to my question. I want to pair the Chronarch with a nice worm rod (under $350.00). I was thinking maybe a St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Teaser :-/. What would you gentleman suggest? If you have any other suggestions for additions to the family, feel free to share ;D. I plan on getting one more flippin' rod in the future (I fish a lot of nasty stuff ).

If you do want to fish them more this year, I would get a crankbait rod. You can flip with that 6' 10" Crucial just fine.

Well, that's actually why I bought it. But, I believe reelmechanic (could be wrong) said that he has seen too many extra fast tipped rods fail on a hard jig hookset :-?. That made me think I should get a dedicated jig rod as I flip/pitch jigs quite often :-/.

G.Loomis MBR844C will match up nicely with the Shimano Chronarch.

I think the St Croix Legend Tournament 7' M/F teaser is a GREAT choice. I just bought this rod myself and have it paired up with a Curado 101D, but........the monkey keeps telling me to get a Chronarch 51MG for that rod, and move the Curado to something else.

I'd go a bit more "moderate" for spinnerbaits...Like Mod-Fast (?). But that's just me...

If you are not fishing cranckbaits you are loosing out on a lot of fun !!!

I've thought about an IMX or MossyBack but I have heard some conflicting reports on these . Now, I am going to repeat something that does not necessarily reflect my opinion, it's just what I have been told. Twice I have been told that G Loomis rods are......how do I say this, brittle. That they can break fairly easily :-X. This concerns me just a bit when paying that much $. I have also heard that their return policy isn't as good as it use to be due to people abusing it. Again, this does not necessarily reflect my opinion; it's just what I have been told. What is your opinion? BS? Maybe, I should look into a crankbait stick first? Or maybe the Teaser? Maybe both?.............DOWN BAIT MONKEY, DOWN!!!!

For that money... no question about it, I would call ReelMech today and order a custom, built on the St. Croix blank you like.  

Also, complete BS.  IMX is NOT brittle, just for the record.  (unless you are comparing it to straight fiberglass.

I would give the Shimano Cumara line a look also.  I have two Cumara rods right now.  They are very lite, sensitive, and some compare them to being just as good if not a little bit better than a IMX.  Its just to bad I have to wait another two months before I get to put them to a true test. :'(

A properly used and taken care of Loomis rod will never break (well, at least without many, many, many hours of use). A defective rod can, but that is covered under their lifetime warrantee.

Their warrantee program has not changed, but I can see them starting to track people who have a lot of "defective" rods. I don't think a maker can or should be judged by the fact they cover or don't cover, under warrantee, owner abuse/mishaps. I, for one, hope to never have to use their warrantee. I take precautions in order to avoid having to use it. I look at it the same as auto and home insurance, it's a great piece of mind having it, but I hope to never use it.

IMO, with a list like that, your missing a 3/4-1oz crankbait rod. If you don't feel you can justify using cranks that much, then by all means, get another worm rod. It seems like that is all you fish. ;D

Hahaha you're right, I do fish soft plastics a lot. I mainly fish spinnerbaits, jigs and worms but have been known to throw buzzbaits and topwaters too ;D. I do bust out the crankbaits every once in a while (mainly because I feel guilty because I have so many sitting in my tackle box) but I would like to throw them more. Maybe a crankbait rod is in order :-/. That should "force" me to use them more ;D. What are some suggestions for a crankbait rod? I could probably get away with a less expensive rod for crankbaits because I don't think I need the added sensitivity of a pricier rod. Am I correct? If so, maybe I can get both (worm and crankbait rod).

looks like you already got plastics and spinners covered...you may wanna look at the mbr782 imx.

50mg/782 imx is a match made in heaven for chuggers, jerkbaits and small/medium cranks...pretty big on the funometer, too.

with that combo in hand, you'll probably wind up selling #4.

I have my Cronarch MG on a Powell 703C. It's a great stick for $170!

If I were you, to really take advantage of the best feature of the reel, I would get a super light rod, maybe a Powell, Kistler, or Carrot Stick.

If you put that super light reel on a heavy rod, you're missing the good part.

My set up is my go-to rod for light jig and worm fishing, and I can throw it all day with no problem b/c it's so light.

You're right FishTank that would definitely do nicely 8-). I think I'm going to go with a pricier rod (such as the Loomis BCR893 or The St. Croix Teaser) for my wormin' and go with something like the Shimano Compre CPC- C66MHB (Med. Heavy, Medium fast) for crankbaits. This means that I'm going to need to get another reel for the crankbait stick.maybe another Curado (that Bait Monkey is really going to like me, eh ;D).
