HUNTER19 Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Ok guys I was just wondering if these are good reels. They look great I notced they were made by diawa and was just wondering what you guys thought of them any ifo would be great!! thanks Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 22, 2007 Super User Posted November 22, 2007 The reel may be built by Daiwa but remember it 's made to Cabela 's specifications, so it may be great if Cabela 's aked for good quality materials or it can be a lemon. It 's not made to Daiwa 's specifications. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted November 22, 2007 Super User Posted November 22, 2007 I have been using a 2500A Prodigy spinning reel for about 3 years and it still works great. It's not a Steez, but a great reel for the price you pay. Quote
cbfishalot Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 I would check if you can get parts for it. If the reel breaks you can not fix it because there are no parts for them. The reel is usless and you can throw it into the trash. Cabelas will only take a reel back with in a years time I believe. Quote
Guest muddy Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 If you call their service people they will give you a tackle repair shop that does the work Quote
shootermcbob Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I have a cabelas prodigy baitcaster. I have little experience, only fishing for the last year. I can tell you it is very smooth, almost as smooth as the revo sc i have. At 64.00 on sale right now, I don't know how could go wrong with it. I can not comment on the life of the reel, or how it will hold up, but so far so good. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted November 23, 2007 Super User Posted November 23, 2007 I have a cabelas prodigy baitcaster. I can tell you it is very smooth, almost as smooth as the revo sc i have. A lot of reels are "ALMOST as smooth as the revo"...close, BUT....no cigar! Quote
lubina Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 I have a chance to clean one for a friend, it cast very nice and retrieve smooth and feels solid. I didn't noted any parts suspicious for bad quality or plastic but the reel was 6-8 month old. The look remained me my Alpha. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted November 23, 2007 Super User Posted November 23, 2007 They are on sale right now. Quote
Rob G. Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 If you are referring to the Prodigy baitcaster, it is actually made by Silstar. It is the same as one of the Pinnacle reels. I got a break on the price of these and bought three of them the first year they were on the market. They are junk. Two went kapoot before the first season was finished. Cabelas replaced them. The third went kapoot early the next season. Cabelas replaced it also. Long story short, all the replacements went kapoot soon thereafter again and I returned them to Cabelas for store credit. These reels look decent at a glance and seem to have a very free spinning spool, but do not waste your money. They will not hold up and will only cause you inconvenience and aggrevation. For the money, either an old model Shimano Curado, or an ABU Revo SX is a far better choice and they will hold up for years with minimal maintenance. Quote
twors Posted November 25, 2007 Posted November 25, 2007 The '07 model Prodigy baitcasters are made by Daiwa. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewcabelas2007reelpreview.html Quote
