Hop Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 What is the recommended tip action for a spinnerbait rod? I have heard soft, medium, and fast. Is it more of a preference thing? Thanks Quote
Cephkiller Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Take a look at this thread: http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1175915247 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 12, 2007 Super User Posted April 12, 2007 I use an older Berkley rod; 6' MH moderate-fast action for spinnerbaiting. The reason I use it is that I haven't found anything I like better. And that's a pretty whiz-poor reason, I know. For me a rod that's good for plastics is too fast and a rod that's good for cranking is too slow. I do know that I like a shorter rod for this application. Spinnerbaiting, for me, is a short distance, specific target, kind of game, and a short rod is just more accurate. Didn't exactly answer your question, but that's as good as I got. Cheers, GK Quote
lubina Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 I'm probably in the minority but I prefer mod-fast, for me the ideal is the CBR845. Quote
Garnet Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 You want a rod with soft enough tip that it bends when running your spinnerbait but not to the power point of your rod. I use Clarus mh 6-6 -cssx for general spinerbait work as mentioned I use a 6 ft Clarus mh for target fishing. And a 6-10 clarus cssx mh for very clear lakes for smallies were distance is the deal. They all have this quality soft tip but not to soft. I get the deal on shimano and can get any quality rods but chosse clarus because they have the right action. Garnet Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 12, 2007 Super User Posted April 12, 2007 My "preference" is what I consider the best of both worlds: Fast Action with a soft tip! (St. Croix Avid AC66MF). Quote
Garnet Posted April 12, 2007 Posted April 12, 2007 Just to add my rods are all 70/30 so the hook setting power is 1/3 down the blank. Most rods that are termed fast or exacter fast are these 70/30 the ones that just keep bending will be mh or m with no exacter terms and are 60/40 blank so the hook setting power is close to 1/2 way down the blank. Super User Munkin Posted April 14, 2007 Super User Posted April 14, 2007 While just about any rod will work for spinnerbaits I prefer a moderate fast action MH rod. I use a Falcon Lowrider spinnerbait rod and it works well for both spinnerbaits and large jerkbaits. Allen Quote
