Super User Munkin Posted April 7, 2024 Super User Posted April 7, 2024 So I have a local guy that wants me to make him some spinnerbaits for Sante Cooper that have a single large colorado. He said size 8 blades and when they came in these are huge. You could scoop ice cream with these blades! The heaviest head I have right now is 3/4oz and I don't think its heavy enough to support this size blade. Anyone ever make a bait with size 8 colorados and if so how did it run? It has rained for a week straight so everywhere I normally test baits is flooded out. Allen Quote
steves191145 Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 I run single and double 8s on inline spinners for musky. I've caught a few big smallmouth on them over the years while musky fishing. Hope he is using a good reel 8s and anything bigger will give it a workout. Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted April 7, 2024 Super User Posted April 7, 2024 8 is a lot of blade for 3/4oz. Also be sure they're regular 8 and not mag 8 blades. Big difference in size Quote
keagbassr Posted April 7, 2024 Posted April 7, 2024 Never used an 8 biggest i use are 7's which I throw on 1oz. down to 1/2oz. Without issue so i don't think 3/4 would be a problem with the 8's. Just gotta have the rod to do it. I burn 1oz. Baits with a single sz.7 on a 7-5 h/f with an 8:3 reel up in maine for smallies and they run fine no rolling. 1 Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted April 8, 2024 Super User Posted April 8, 2024 For my own curiosity, can you post a picture of these size 8's next to a size 5? Quote
Bdnoble84 Posted April 15, 2024 Posted April 15, 2024 I’ve done a #8 indiana and #6 willow but not a #8 colorado on a 3/4 oz. The #8indiana ran nicely. I’m guessing the #8 colorado would have to be slow rolled to keep it off the surface. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted April 15, 2024 Super User Posted April 15, 2024 Use 1oz. That dog should hunt fine 2 Quote

Super User Jigfishn10 Posted June 10, 2024 Super User Posted June 10, 2024 Size 8?! I'd be worn out at the end of the day fishing that size blade. Quote

Allen Sorry I missed this thread. I have a 1oz spinnerbait mold that I use for pouring magnum spinnerbaits. I have one that use that is a #6 and #7 Colorado blades for early season fishing. 2 Quote
