fishingkidPA Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Im looking into getting a inflatable kayaks for some fairly small lakes around my house, we already have a canoe and it can be annoying and hard to transport, especially for short trips were we could bring an inflatable. Some of these say they are for fishing but how durable are they? what if my hook gets stuck in it? lol also should i get a sit on top or sit in? here are the two i was deciding between. http://www.amazon.com/Sevylor-Inflatable-Sit-On-Top-Kayak-2-Person/dp/B003659NYA/ref=cm_cr_pr_sims_t http://www.amazon.com/Sevylor-Tahiti-Fishing-Hunting-Inflatable/dp/B003652EQY/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1298216867&sr=8-6 thanks Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted February 21, 2011 Super User Posted February 21, 2011 here a vid of one, if I did it right??? I have an inflatable boat and like it very very much. Mine is a little bit thicker material but havent had any issues. Quote
Bob Lee Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 I fish out of the Sevylor FishMaster jon-type boat. The material looks very similar to your second link. I've dragged it over rocks - run it full-speed into stumps (I didn't see it!) and had fish come loose right beside it and had the hooks bounce off the gunwal, and never had a leak in the air bladders from that. HOWEVER - I did have to patch two leaks over the winter when some gravel got between the protective outer "Hull" and the air bladder inside. Put two tiny pin-***** holes right where the rock had been. I have nothing but nice things to say about my Sevylor - and their customer service is really great! When I got the leak, I called them to see if they had a recommended patch method - they overnighted me their patch kit for cheaper than I could get one from the store (about $6 as memory serves). Stoneyman Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 I'll second the motion for seaeagle boats. But, if I were in your shoes i'd save up & get this: http://www.seaeagle.com/FramelessPontoonBoats.aspx I did the kayak fishing thing and it got old fast. I've had my seaeagle pontoon boat for 2 years now and highly recommend it. You don't even need a motor it glides across the water with ease. And it's made for fishing and very rugged. Quote

SausageFingers23 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I used a $60 Coleman, 2 person kayak a few seasons ago. It was a great purchase but I believe it has been discontinued. The ones you provided links to look very similiar in terms of the materials. One bit of advice - if you purchase one, try to store it inflated if you have the room. I stored mine uninflated over the winter, the plastic became a little brittle and it formed leaks where the plastic overlapped. Another option you may want to consider is the Sevylor Fish Hunter (or something similiar). Very durable and it can take a small trolling motor. http://www.sevylor.com/Fish-Huntertrade-4-Person-Boat-P2030C40.aspx Quote

SausageFingers23 Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 They are a little cumbersome to paddle. A 30 lb thrust trolling motor should be plenty to move it around. I believe Minn Kota sells them for around $100. A battery would run about $75 and the motor mount in the $25 range. Quote
