Fat Ika Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 A-Rig & plus 1 Ounce swimbaits....anything over an ounce. Shoulders, back and neck are destroyed. I need to fish the path of least resistance or else I won't even be able to be on the water. Also, my days of frogging/flipping heavy cover are over. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 6, 2022 Super User Posted January 6, 2022 Deep diving crankbait for me. I've got two 3700 boxes full of them, but I do better with other types of deep baits. 1 Quote

I'd be in that camp, but I now have the luxury of easily ned rigging on hard bottom. Never again around grass/soft bottom and I'm not a fan of using offset neds or ripping exposed hook neds in grass, even though it can be deadly. Quote
Junk Fisherman Posted January 6, 2022 Posted January 6, 2022 Wobble head jig is the only technique I have tried that I haven't caught a single fish on. I've never thrown a glide bait, a swimbait over a 4.8" Keitech, Whopper Plopper, or a jigging spoon. And I gotta say that the Chatterbait responses really surprise me. What kind of trailers are you guys using? When I started using paddle tail swimbait trailers my big fish numbers went way up. Before then I used to always catch 'em using a grub trailer. I thought just about every bass fishermen was using Chatterbaits so I stopped using them as much. Quote

For a couple years though, I struggled to catch fish on a jerk bait. I actually considered selling them. I stuck with it though and one day it produced a number of good brown bass. Now I have one tied on when I'm smallmouth fishing every single time, and I also use it occasionally for largies. Currently, I would say that topwaters are my nemesis. The whopper plopper is such an over hyped lure. I've tried it too. Can't stand it. Its like watching paint dry. Not disputing its effectiveness because its obvious that it works, but its just not up my alley. Couldn’t agree more on the whopper plopper. I’ve got four of them and have only caught a single fish on one of them. 1 Quote

But for whatever reason, not for me. I just don't get it. Not only did I throw these wacky baits all ALL my favorite big fish haunts last year, I've been hurling these things all over northern Michigan for going on 3 seasons ! Well, not anymore, my current glide bait inventory is ZERO. I sold them all and have NO plans to change that. Free at last ! A-Jay I am currently in the middle of this road. 2022 might be the year that makes or breaks me. I started dabbling in hard swimbaits and glides about 2 seasons ago, and I can tell, pure stubbornness is the only thing that is keeping them tied on. Another dead or even slow season, I might give it up forever. 1 Quote

Next to trying to learn to stitch a worm, they were my next biggest bust. Life is too short and so is my fishing season. A-Jay 4 Quote

To those struggling with the Ned rig..I don't know what to say to help...maybe you should pick up dynamite? Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted January 7, 2022 Super User Posted January 7, 2022 Never caught anything on a ned rig or a Rattle Trap. I only caught one on a dropshot. The only lipless bait I ever caught fish on was a Bayou Boogie and that was well over 50 years ago. 1 Quote

bigspirit Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Ned rig and chatterbait. Granted, I haven’t put near as much time into them as other techniques. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 7, 2022 Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2022 Flutter spoons. I've caught some white bass on them, but that's it. I can understand the folks having trouble with a bladed jig. When they first came out, I tried them and then wrote them off after several unsuccessful attempts. Then I found one in a tree one day and decided to tie it on. I caught so many fish on it when I was having a slow day. Too many people fish them too fast and I also think bite detection is an issue with them. 3 Quote

Arthritis in my hands made it clear last summer that frogging was a thing of the past. I'd just purchased an SK Poppin' Perch and was getting bit with it including a 4 lbr. when I had to stop and go home because of the pain. I looked forward to that technique when vegetation made my usual methods impractical. Quote
LonnieP Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Chatterbait for me. Swore I’d never buy another one after I lost the last Jackhammer I had. Quote
BassinCNY Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 Original chatterbait for me. They caught a lot of walleye and catfish but no bass. Other vibrating jigs work great for me though. Quote
