nullbass Posted December 25, 2021 Posted December 25, 2021 It's time to purchase my first sort-of specific rod for frogs/t-rigs/flipping/punching. My budget is $230 and I am leaning towards a 7'3" to 7'6" heavy extra fast. Thoughts on that setup? The Favorite big sexy or emperor fall into that range but i just found Dobyns has a lot of rods for < $200 on sale. I'm sticking to Tackle Warehouse as I have gift certificates. Dobyns has so many models that it's overwhelming. Any guidance would be appreciated, I've watched too many videos, analysis paralysis is consuming me. Also I am not fishing for anything but fun, if a cheaper rod will do and save some money, I am on-board. An example of a Dobyns rod I came across Dobyns Champion XP Split Cast Rod 7'3" Hvy XFast 736 736C SH XP. Frogs, Pitchin' & Flippin'. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Dobyns_Champion_XP_Split_Grip_Casting_Rods/descpage-DNCT.html Quote

Super User T-Billy Posted December 26, 2021 Super User Posted December 26, 2021 My choice to cover all the techniques you mentioned. My Dobyns Kaden and Sierra flippin sticks have been collecting dust since I got it. I'll take one of these over a champ too. Add a $99 Lew's LFS Speed Spool and you have an outstanding combo for right at $230 @ full retail price. 1 Quote
kdubracing Posted December 26, 2021 Posted December 26, 2021 If you don't find an XF, I've been very happy with my Tatula Elite 7'4" H/F for these specific techniques (although I haven't had the opportunity to punch with it yet). I've mostly used it for frogs and 1/2 oz jigs so far. I've carolina rigged with it a bit, but not much. I haven't found anything I don't like it for so far. Quote
