It’s Black Friday so would like to capitalize on some deals to purchase my next rod.

I am looking for a rod under $150 that can be my jerkbait/crankbait/rattletrap rod if there is such a thing.

I usually throw medium sized baits in all types.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Im looking at dobyns fury 705CB right now.

Could you elaborate on why you like the tatula more? Sometimes is as simple as the look of feel in hand, and inquiring minds are dying to know. ?Thanks.

The Fury isn’t a bad rod, but The Tatula to me is more comfortable and feels lighter in my hands. I also get a little better casting distance as well. I’ve caught hundreds of bass on both rods, up to 7lbs.

I think you’ll be happy with it for the techniques you listed

I own the 703C, but before I bought it I handled the 705CB on a few occasions.  The 703 better fit the gap I was needing to fill (a faster action) so don't read too much into my choice.

Anyway, the best way I can describe the 705CB Graphite rod is "all-around treble hook".  It'll do the jobs you're asking of it.

My advice when Dobyns comes up is call them.  As far as product knowledge and helpful customer service is concerned, they won't steer you wrong.

Sounds to me like you are looking for at least two, maybe three, rods.  I like a pretty soft rod to jerk bait fish with.  I never could throw a trap and jerk bait on the same rod.  You might get by with a crank bait and trap on the same rod, but I couldn't.  I need three crank bait rods.  One for DT-6 and Wiggle Warts, one for 3 - 5 XD and equivalent and one for big cranks and traps.

I'd go to BPS and buy me three Crankin' Sticks.  I think they are as good any crank bait rod out there.  Ott and Edwin manage to catch a fish ever now and then on them.  They come in lots of actions and length for almost any movement bait.  $79.99 right now at BPS.  That's the normal price.  I've seen them at $49.99.

What's even worse is I'm not a crank bait buff.  lol !!

I have a 705CB and it’s a great rod for what you’re looking for.

Having said that, I got a notion earlier this year to tie on a 3/0 EWG and a Neko Macho as a weightless TR to see how it fished. I was pleasantly surprised. I caught a few bass and the hookset was great. I wasn’t sure what to expect so the result made me happy.

But it is a really good jerkbait and crankbait rod!

I use a 7"1 Med Fast Muse for smaller/ shallow cranks, JBs, lipless and it does really well.  The action and power make it an incredibly versatile rod.  The Omen Blacks use the same blanks so the action should be really close.

I use a medium/fast (Fury 703C) for my jerks, squarebills and lipless. My 705CB is for regular crankbaits, Zara Spooks and Whopper Ploppers/Choppos.

If you're set on the Fury - go with the Kaden 735CB over the Fury - $151 with TW's 20% off so just a titch over your limit...but worth it.

Try the Sierra 703C. I couldn't think of a better do it all rod that will throw a square bill, lipless, jerkbait, popper and weightless soft plastics. Another option is the St Croix Mojo Bass M/F rods, either the 6'8" jerkbait model or the 7'1" plastics, depending on which length you prefer. The M/F Tatula likely would have been roughly similar (I don't own any of the mediums).

The Fury CB is actually a very good rod, but many people (myself included) like a rod with a lot of bend throughout but not too much bend in the tip for jerkbaits. The faster tip of the rods I suggested above are better for jerkbaits, not too stiff for crankbaits and they let you fish weightless soft plastics as well.

I’m in agreement, I have last years model with the split grips and I’m kicking myself in the rump for not grabbing more when I saw them at $49.99. I’m not a fan of the full grip but for the price you can do a lot worse.
