Looking at getting a new rod for spinnerbaits and chatter baits fishing from shore.  I will be tossing 1/2-1oz for SM.

looking to spend 120 or less on a rod to pair with a KVD Smoke S3 im going to be getting.  I already have a Veritas 7'0 MH/F that i picked up for pretty d**n cheap this year....would that work?  Other Suggestions?

Thanks!

That Veritas is rated to 1oz, so as long as you don't try bombing the 1oz lures you should be fine. Some recommend a mod or mod-fast action for chatters, but I use a fast with no issues.

St Croix Bass X or lews tp1 black are in your price range and are great rods.

Black Friday sales will be starting pretty soon. You might find a good deal.

I’ll give you 4 rods I own although I only use 1 for chatterbaits. Lews TP1  7’-3”med hvy  moderate action 1/2 to 1-3/8 oz weight range light weight and very comfortable. Okuma evx b 7’2” med hvy fast action 1/4-3/4 oz weight range marketed as spinnerbait/chatterbait rod also very light & comfortable, Okuma tcs-a 7’-3” hvy fast action 1/4-2 oz weight range soft tip with a solid backbone marketed as frog/swim bait rod and the  one I’m currently using for chatter baits a BPS “crankin stick” 7’-3” hvy fast action 3/8-2 oz weight range, it’s a composite rod which makes it a little heavier but still very comfortable to me. I have the 2020 version with split grip but I held the new ones and the blank and guides are still the same.  The Lews and BPS rods retail for $99.00 the EVX retails for $122.99 and the TCS-A for I believe $144.99 although I did not pay retail for any of these rods and both Okuma rods came from tackle warehouse’s Black Friday sale which will keep you on budget or under(more money for chatter baits) ?. I’m planning on trying the tcs for chatter baits next season. Lastly in your price range (Black Friday sales) although I don’t own one St. Croix has plenty of options in the mojo lineup 7’ - 7’-1” moderate fast to fast action along with the aforementioned bass x line.

You can also can experiment with line (FC , Braid, Co-Poly, Mono) depending on your rod set up . The Lews TP1 7'3" MH/Mod would fill a hole in my line up as all my MH rods are Fast .

I like a fairly moderate taper and braid for both of those baits. I vote ARK Tharp B-Hittay. 7'4" MH Mod Fast. FANTASTIC rods for the money. $129 retail but as mentioned Black Friday is just around the corner.

I've had pretty good luck with a 7' MH Lightning Rod Shock. It's extremely versatile and very affordable.
