Humminbird MEGA Live

Maybe I missed it earlier but I just noticed that Humminbird finally has MEGA Live on their website.   Still can’t buy one which is no surprise.   Finally able to learn some details that I’ve been wondering about.  Connects via Ethernet so you can still connect MEGA 360 imaging to the same unit.  It’s interesting that they don’t show any screenshots.  I guess they don’t have a working prototype yet.  ?

The pros were supposed to get theirs a few months back, but that never happened. The release date was pushed back a few times and now there isn’t a new release date that I’m aware of. Some vendors have taken deposits and some die hard Humminbird guys have put deposits down on a unit that virtually doesn’t exist. 
 

Strange times for sure. ?

I think they originally said a March 2021 release, I would be SHOCKED if it's before March 2022.

I remember watching a KVD video back in February or March where he said he was going to have MEGA Live before a certain event and obviously that never happened so something went seriously wrong at some point.

i cant afford live right now anyway so it doesnt matter to me. i just wish i could get my 9 inch mega di for my bow. been waitng 3 months now.

At the rate Humminbird is going you could save a penny a day and you’ll have enough by the time they release it. ?

spoke to folks in Eufala Thursday. It has not been released and they refused to project a date or give a reason past COVID side effects

I don’t believe the COVID excuse because they could at least get a couple pros a unit or two to pimp but they haven’t. They’ve ran into issues along the way is the only reason for the silence in my eyes.

The elusive MEGA Live will make it’s debut at the classic and a few pros have them on their boat now.

Everything with humminbird is elusive right now. My new helix and and mega 360 has been on backorder for 2 months.

I ordered a new Solix and MEGA 360 this week.  Both were in stock.  We’ll see when I actually get them.

Haha.  I'm ordering a 2022 Ranger Z520R when they're released next week at the Classic and hopefully I can get my hands on a Humminbird LIVE to put on it by the time the boat is built.

 

I looked very very hard at Vexus and it was my 2nd choice, but I don't like the layout of the VX20.  The VX21 won't fit in my garage, so it was out of the running.

I just got an email from Humminbird saying MEGA Live will be available in September 2021.  I hope  Santa Claus is an authorized distributor.

Finally imaging to prove it exists. A huge disappointment in imagin if you ask me, but it exists nonetheless

Cancelled my pre-order two days before that video dropped because I thought to myself "it can't the THAT much better, if at all, than my current Livescope without a black box... And it may be a good idea to let all the kinks get worked out with a years worth of updates as well"

 

Glad I made that choice. And it felt pretty good seeing that refund hit my bank account today within an hour or so after I saw that video lol

When I first got my two Gen 1 Solix units they were very buggy.  Humminbird has a history of shipping stuff before it’s ready.  What surprised me about the video was how little they showed MEGA Live.  It was a good promotional video for 360 Imaging and Brandon Palaniuk though.  ?

Doesn't look very game changery does it? Hardly worthy of the "Mega" prefix. I'm sure it will be fine and probably as good as the other options, but they look a bit late to the party.

From my reading Garmin holds the patent for live technology, so anything that comes from Humminbird and Lowrance is ‘rented’ technology from Garmin and you know Garmin isn’t going to be out done with their old technology so that’s why this isn’t knock your socks off, and doesn’t look as good a Livescope.

What reading? I see lots of people writing this but no good evidence to back it up. My suspicion is that HB technology is licensed from Oculus, a UK company, and not Garmin. I do not believe Garmin holds the only patent for live imaging.

 

However, my suspicion is also unsubstantiated in that I have no evidence other than the transducers look similar between the new LIVE and the oculus unit.

 

The more I look at it in landscape mode, I don’t feel quite as disappointed, but still not wowed how Humminbird wowed initially with Mega imaging.

Do you remember the Lowrance v Garmin lawsuit a few years back?
