So, on 4/23 I ordered a new swimbait rod, and a couple of glide baits from TW. Now, I know they are backed up like everyone else, but today I went on TW and checked on my order only to find out that my order won't ship until 5/10, which seems a bit long.

I checked 2 other sites and orders are shipped within a few days.

So I have to ask, is TW that busy, or what.

Any of you guys experience the same thing.?

COVID still is slowing stuff down.

This is a pretty lame excuse when almost everyone else online can get your orders out the door within a couple of days after placing the order!

Made a small order a couple weeks ago and sprang for two-day shipping. It took a day or so to get it packed and picked up, but it was at my house by the end of that week.

They're based in California where the restrictions are much tighter. They have another branch in Georgia now I believe where if all your order can be shipped from there, it gets out quickly. I made 1 order, had it in 3 days. Made another order, didn't ship for almost 2 weeks. Best advice, don't order if you're in a hurry. It's still the best place to get everything you need all at once, just might have to be patient.

I would guess they're "selling short"

Maybe the rod was not physically in their hands, but in a supplier's warehouse.

TD, for example (yes, not TW), separates website inventory by "in stock at TD" and "in stock at our vendors"

They will sell you either one, but the latter has to be shipped to them before the can ship it out.

The former stock in hand will always ship out the next day.

Many of these stores will also buy from each other to fill orders.  When I ordered a Crowder rod from TD, Mar '20, I got a call from TD Customer Service they didn't have the stock they listed, and Crowder in Florida was closing doors for 2020.  Gave me the choice of refund or let them try to find it.  I wanted the rod - they hunted it down from stock somewhere else, kept me posted, and shipped it to me after a month.  Delay or not, I thought it was over the top service.

My last two orders were pretty quick compared to past orders. I don’t remember where the first came from, but my recent order came from Georgia and I ordered on a Saturday and was here on Wednesday.

Just to give you and idea how shipping has been, I placed two separate orders for boat seats that came from Connecticut to me in Michigan and they took 25-27 hours to get here and it was the standard shipping. I ordered my Dobyns rod from TW and it was to me from Georgia in 4 days (standard shipping) I ordered a milk crate from Flint, Michigan (2.5 hour drive from me) and it took almost 2 weeks to get here. There’s no rhyme or reason for how long things take. I’m sure Covid restrictions do play a role somewhat.

Their Ground shipping is as slow as molasses to be processed, but they offer 2 day shipping for cheap and that will process/ship same/next day.

If they say it will be May 10th, it may be due to the fact something you ordered is not actually in stock?

I've experienced this.  I have placed orders several times in the past year and it happens every time.  The order processes, the items are in stock, but the correspondence says a ship date is at least a week or more out.  I have to assume its simply because they don't have the manpower to physically go out into the warehouse and pick it.  So I figure its about 2+ weeks to actually get the items in hand after I place the order, which is fine in the winter.  But not fine during fishing season because I need it in 2 days when I'm going fishing next.

Just another reason I'd rather go pick it myself at a retail store if I'm able to.

The lady I spoke to at TW said it's a combination of reduced staff due to COVID and the fact that more people then ever before are fishing across the country...again, probably COVID related as being outdoors is the best way to escape the COVID restrictions. Still, TW can't afford to rest on it's laurels of being the #1 online tackle vendor for too long as others are catching up fast!!!

I half believe her,,,,,,,I believe the reduced staff due to CA restrictions.   I waited three weeks for four spools of line they had in stock.  Also when you used to purchase over $50 the expedited shipping was $5, now it's more than double.   TW is the only place I order from that takes that long.

I placed 9 orders with tackle warehouse during the height of the pandemic.  Only had 1 order with a slight delay.  I’m on the east coast and my orders arrive as quickly as any other retailer.

The $5 two day shipping cost isn't TW's fault, that is the shipping companies that are charging more since they are so swamped!

I’m an east coaster also. I just do the free shipping because I really don’t need anything tomorrow or anything that badly. Usually takes me 7-10 days Covid or no Covid. I really don’t want to deal with anyone else at this point. TW does a pretty decent job.

I wasn't saying it was, I was just pointing out changes.   I do believe the incredibly slow time they take actually filling the order is on them though.   Considering their actual package and ship times are MUCH slower than anywhere else I order from.

They've always been very slow for me.  A couple of years ago I place a TW order and a JDM order within an hour of each other on a Thursday.  The order from Japan arrived on Tuesday and the TW order arrived the following Friday.

I understand and can relate @Hammer 4 with the TW shipping situation, considering SLO is a little over 3.5 hrs away.  Pre-pandemic, if I place my order before 1200, GSL would have it on my porch the following day with free shipping. Now, we’re looking at two week shipping times unless you’re willing to pony up for expedited shipping fees.
My latest order arrived Monday after a two week delay. I did call TW about the shipping delay. As everyone has already stated, the TW employee said they were just getting slammed and they were trying to keep up. I asked if the new Georgia location was receiving all of their attention to the detriment of getting orders out of their SLO location. I was told this wasn’t the case, the Georgia location should actually help get orders out faster.
Fortunately, we’ve got lots of options to get fishing tackle

Placed an order 4/19 early. Got an email that it would ship that day. Checked the link for tracking and it indicated it would ship 5/3. Almost a 100.00 order so I opted for free ground. I’ve always gotten my orders within 2-3 days in the past, it’s just the backlog. I’m also in California, so I’m sure that has a lot to do with the current delays.

What’s really frustrating is that many items are labeled No Back Order. I have my doubts that will clear up anytime soon even with Covid situation a lot brighter. We are now in the new normal!

We placed an order recently and it noted that it was going to take a week before shipping. I feel for these guys. The government imposed regulation on work spaces during this pandemic has been tough to deal with. Then, with the shipping companies just being bombarded with new business, it is tough to keep things from falling through the cracks every once in a while.

I don't disagree with that you've said here.  But, pre-covid, it was like this too.  I'd place an order and it would be a week before it shipped out, even with all items in stock.  So what was their excuse before the pandemic?

I've been buying more and more from Fish USA and Scheels

Latest Scheels order. Placed Sunday 4/25 - Shipped Monday 4/26 - estimated arrival Thursday 4/29 - actual arrival - Wednesday 4/28

Fish USA is almost as fast - and I never pay extra for 'priority handling' from either one.

Lame yet convenient

is it legal for me To buy fishing gear then ship it to all of y’all?? This dilemma always cracks me up, I think I could make a killing off eager gear heads

Our orders have always been shipped the day after placing them, before covid happened. So in light of that, you bring up a good point.

That is what I would expect from an online retailer.  If its in stock, ship it.  That is my experience with just about every online retailer other than TW, so I can appreciate you committing to that Jim.

I've never been a big online purchaser.  Not real excited about paying for shipping or waiting days for items to arrive.  I've always bought items in store, in person.  Fishing tackle has been readily available at retail stores where I live here in MN for all of my adult fishing life...except for last season.  Shelves got wiped out because of supply issues and high demand, so I had to buy tackle online instead.  I stocked up this past winter big time when I went to these retail stores so I don't run into issues this season when I need hooks, sinkers, line, lures, or other items.

I ordered some hot dog roasters from Scheels on a Monday morning and they came on Tuesday.  Big fan of buying at Scheels as I grew up hanging out with one of them.

Their standard 50 dollar free shipping leaves you at their mercy (who spends less than $50 at TW anyway?) as far as ship date. Springing for the two day gets it out the door the next day in my experience.
