4# Berkley XL is .008D = to 5# Max UG and 25% less knot strength. Testing should be apples to apples or equal diameter.

Have you tested this. My experience and 1 world record disputes your statement,

Sensation!

I use the 2lb for my XXUL spinning setup and 4lb for my panfish BFS rig. Never broken off unless I was doing something stupid.

My mono of choice for Trout and Panfishing has been Vicious Fishing Ultimate Monofilament in clear blue. The average diameter is usually smaller than the same pound test lines of most brands.

It has been strong and dependable for me.

Maxima Chameleon is a lifelong favorite.  I buy jumbo spools of it I like it so much.

I have finally used up numerous spools of 4 lb. mono and braid in my supply cache. The most recent spool of mono was from 2009 (Sufix Superior) and I haven't kept up with who is making the better mono nowadays. I've decided to revert several spools back to mono as I mostly cast tiny jigs and that isn't working so well with braid (for me).

Any brands stand out that you want to recommend? I'll be looking for a bulk spool if possible. Focused mainly on the diameter but also want it supple.

I recently did a little research on 4# mono/co-polymers.  Two of the smallest diameters I found were Gliss Supersmooth Monotex and Berkley NanoFil (at .004, I believe).  However, since the line is going on a finesse baitcast reel, I decided to go with line in the .006 diameter size.  Two such lines are Sunline Super Natural and Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Monofilament.

Super Natural will be more supple, but I went with Spiderwire based on what I've read on its other attributes.  At .006 diameter I don't foresee any problem with line stiffness.  Especially on a baitcast reel.  Unfortunately I don't find it offered in bulk spools, but since it will see limited use by me, bulk spools aren't needed.

I'd be interested in what you decide to go with

Was just thinking I need something similar for my sons rod (small kids zebco rod/reel) as the line that it came with has way to much memory.

How is Trilene XL 4#-6# memory?

Line is probably long purchased by now but Mr Crappie bulk spools are about the best thing you can purchase for kids reels. Cheap price, available in bright colors, and manages surprisingly well.
