Super User BrianMDTX Posted March 22, 2021 Super User Posted March 22, 2021 Been hemming and hawing between rods and decided to try a Falcon Lowrider. Just ordered a LFC-7MHF to pair with a Daiwa Fuego CT. Going to make it my main worm rod (for now). 4 Quote

Super User Mobasser Posted March 22, 2021 Super User Posted March 22, 2021 Around my area, Falcon rods are kind of a sleeper. Not as popular as Loomis or Fenwick, but I think just as good. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 23, 2021 Super User Posted March 23, 2021 I’ve had several Lowriders. They have always been quality rods. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted March 23, 2021 Author Super User Posted March 23, 2021 I read a lot of reviews and they seem like a higher-end rod than that price point. Looking forward to getting my hands on it Friday. Quote
Super User bulldog1935 Posted March 23, 2021 Super User Posted March 23, 2021 I don't have a Lowrider, but have an Original, Many original originals, and a couple of Glass - would be hard to count the number of Falcon rods I've bought both for my dad and me over the past 40 years. A buddy not long ago bought a Falcon MF inshore spinning rod at my recommendation and loves it. Here's my daughter catching big sheepshead on the flats with a Falcon Open Hook Special ML spinning rod. 1 1 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted March 23, 2021 Super User Posted March 23, 2021 I have owned a couple Bucoo rods and for the money, I thought they were nice rods. I'm sure you will enjoy. 1 Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted March 23, 2021 Author Super User Posted March 23, 2021 I was torn between a St. Croix Mojo Bass or a Dobyns Fury, but I was not finding what I wanted in power, action and length. This is just what I wanted. 7’, MH/F and split cork grips. If they are as nice as I hear, the grips should be great. 1 Quote
jbrew73 Posted March 23, 2021 Posted March 23, 2021 The falcon low rider 7’ mh fast is a really great rod. Very versatile, light and sensitive. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted March 23, 2021 Super User Posted March 23, 2021 I've got 3 of the original micro guide bucoos and they are excellent rods Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 23, 2021 Global Moderator Posted March 23, 2021 The Bucoo is a super nice rod in the $100 range. I've got 3 of them now and would have no issues buying more. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted March 27, 2021 Author Super User Posted March 27, 2021 The Falcon arrived yesterday while I was out...fishing lol. My wife texted me “there’s a big, long box on the porch with your name on it”. When I got home it was indeed a long box. That looked bent ? Inside the box was a stout tube marked “Falcon”, and I mean stout. I have quite a few cardboard tubes from shipped rods and this one is without a doubt the heaviest and strongest one. Props to Falcon on that point. Inside the rod was wrapped in plastic, with bubble wrap at the grip, midsection and 8” at the tip. I removed the wrapping and looked at it closely. All guides perfectly straight. Cork looks premium, the maroon color looks sharp and zero bubbles in any epoxy. The guide wraps are exceptional. All-in-all it looked like one heck of a rod for $129.99. But how does it fish? Had to wait until this morning to find out. I put a Daiwa Fuego CT FGCT100XS on it spooled with 12 lb YZH. It’s a 8.1:1 ratio which I like for soft plastics to reel in the slack quickly. Took nothing but soft plastics and the winners of the day were Daiwa/GYBC Neko Machos and 5” Senkos (both Texas rigged). Biggest bass was just under 3.5 lbs. It ran into some sunken brush but I had no problems hauling it out with the Falcon. Sensitivity was very good and the grip handle is perfect. Not too long or too short (for me). Time will tell, but as of today I’m pretty impressed with this Falcon Lowrider! 9 Quote
TonynswAR Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Have several Falcons that are over 20 yrs old and are still goin strong. 2 Quote
jbrew73 Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 I like my old model bucoo micros but I think the new low rider is a superior rod for the money. I’ve had some $200 rods from other manufacturers that were not not nearly as nice. 1 Quote

Time will tell, but as of today I’m pretty impressed with this Falcon Lowrider! I've been telling people for years that Falcon makes what I think are the best rods going at the under $200 price point. But on this forum, most people recommend either St. Croix or Dobyns rods to the newbies so that's what people usually buy and then recommend to others down the road, often without the benefit of even fishing something else. I've tried all 3 and for my money Falcon is the one. I find that they compete favorably with rods costing $200 or more in some cases. I'm glad you found a circumstance that allowed you to try one. I'm pretty sure that you'll agree with my assessment. Most folks do once they give Falcons a try. 2 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 28, 2021 Super User Posted March 28, 2021 And Falcon has great customer service. Years ago I purchased a 3 rod package deal of original Experts. They were no longer in production. Broke the Medium when I fell face first into a pile of rocks. Got in touch with Falcon and told them what happened. They sent me a brand new Cara for $80. I felt they owed me nothing and that they went above and beyond. I've used Originals, the Cara and of course the OG Experts. I hate paying full price, but think I am going to have to pay that so I can get a Lowrider. I'm thinking the Head Turner or the Amistad. Finding one may be a problem considering how things are right now. 1 Quote

I have two Daiwa Aird-X’s, a Daiwa Procyon, two Fenwick HMX’s and a St. Croix Bass-X. Nice rods all, but nothing most would say are mid-tier rods. Not even sure if many would label the Lowrider as such. But there is a big difference in fit, finish, quality of components and even moreso in sensitivity and ergonomics (the grip is really nice-I could fish this rig all day without fatigue). Great balance, too. I’d really be interested in trying out a Cara. 2 Quote

Even the $69 HD rod fishes like it cost much more. I'd put them up against the lower priced St. Croix and Dobyns rods as well. Quote

MAN Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 I have had several falcons and they have all been great. Even their overseas series "HD" has held up wonderfully. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted March 29, 2021 Author Super User Posted March 29, 2021 I took a quick 30 minute trip to the pond after work. Only caught one bass about 1.5 lbs. No matter. Just getting the feel of the new rig. Man, I am truly impressed. I’m not sure what the actual rod weighs (can’t find that spec anywhere) but it is light. But not a noodle. I was caught up in some weeds when the bass took the weightless Senko TR and I barely snapped the rod tip up and the hookset on a 3/0 Gammy EWG went through to the bend. I normally buy something and like it but it’s not often I really like it. I really like it! 2 Quote
RTipton Posted March 29, 2021 Posted March 29, 2021 I bought my first Falcon Friday, a Cara 7' all around. Took it out Saturday and I am impressed. Very, very light and extremely comfortable to fish with (full cork and full size handle. Several rods I have purchased recently have smaller reel seats and/or handles.) I bought is as a spinnerbait rod and it is ideal. Quote

If anyone has suggestions of where each excels, let me know! This will be my 3rd lowrider. I've always wanted to stick with one line/manufacturer of rods and I think this may be it. Started with the Bucoo (also a good rod) and after it broke (accident, not an issue with the rod) Falcon allowed me to upgrade. So, thumbs up to their customer service also. Enjoy! 1 Quote
