Sphynx Posted February 27, 2021 Posted February 27, 2021 Depends on the situation, am I fun fishing? Yum Dinger all day long, cheap, decidedly more durable, and I catch fish on them. If we are talking about a tournament, or putting someone on fish for the first time or an important event, GY, every time, they just get shredded so easily and cost so much that I can't justify the expense for fooling around fishing, it's a bit easier to swallow losing a Dinger than a Senko. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 27, 2021 Super User Posted February 27, 2021 I use GYCB Senko’s, D-Neko, Hula grub, Cowboy, Spider Skirts etc. Yum....nothing. Tom 1 Quote
schplurg Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 YUM, though I wish they came without the slot for "weedless" rigging. I think they weaken the worm and are unnecessary. I rig em backwards or sideways to avoid the slot. Never used a GY Senko, too expensive. Someday I will. If you need more action just cut a very small slice or two into it. I notice when 'Dingers get a bit chewed up that they have more action. I've never tried cutting one but I'd guess it would work. Someone mentioned biting a worm in half. I bit one and it was disgusting. Never again, they rip easily enough with the fingers 1 Quote

I guess its a little different fishing with a net though. Those are all pin hooked. 7 hours ago, GetFishorDieTryin said: So youve been trying to wipe them out since the mid 70s? Yes. Quote

Armtx77 Posted February 28, 2021 Posted February 28, 2021 Senko in black w/blue flake, has outfished everything I own. I bought a case of them a couple of years ago. Should be good for another 2, maybe 3 years. The fish in my avatar and 7 more or 7 consecutive casts, were all caught on a black w/blue flake 5"Senko Quote

The Senko excels there for fall rate and shimmy. Although.....I have been sticking some tiny brass nails into each end of my Dingers and getting equal to or better than Senko results for Wacky rigging. Adds just under 1/16 of an ounce to the overall weight. Now fall rate and shimmy are on par with the Senko. I love it when guys post awesome knowledge like this! Cool! For my part, I agree with Catt, I have learned different stick baits for different applications. I love to lob a 6" dinger into sunfish pods in shallow water. I like the Ocho and the XZone core center stick, and like everyone else a true Senko. 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted March 1, 2021 Super User Posted March 1, 2021 After being pro staff for Yamamoto for close to 20 years, you know what my vote is.??. But let me tell you what I have always said about the Senko vs the 10,000 copy stick baits out there.......Once you start putting weights in a Senko, nail weights, nose weights, worm weights, Tokyo rigs, dropshot rigs, etc. and as soon as you start throwing them on anything larger than 10lb test line, you might as well use a cheap knockoff because you have taken away what makes a Senko different from all of the others and that’s the action. Take that away and you have made it just another stick bait. It was designed to be a free falling finesse bait. As a matter of fact Yamamoto has always encouraged me to throw other stick baits and let them know how they performed. And just so you know I’m no hypocrite, I just got back from lake Okeechobee and the number 1 bait that caught 95% of my fish was a 5 inch Senko on a 7ft med/hvy fast action pro qualifier rod and a pro qualifier wide spool spinning reel with 35lb braid and a 5.0 gamakatsu ewg hook. I rigged it both weightless and with a screw in nose weight so that it would fall straight down the reed stalks. Nothing finesse about either one of those rigs. Finally, if there is a manufacturer that makes a “must have” unique color for you, then confidence trumps maker every time. Quote
