Super User DitchPanda Posted February 10, 2021 Super User Posted February 10, 2021 What rod, reel and line setup you throwing these on? How do they fish? Quote
Big Swimbait Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 Med action rod with 10-12 lb mono since it has small trebles. You will need a little stretch to keep them pinned. My best luck has been a burn-pause-burn-pause retrieve. 1 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 I throw it on my Dobyns Fury 705CB rod, 10# fluoro, 7:5.1 ratio reel Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted February 11, 2021 Author Super User Posted February 11, 2021 I'm thinking of throwing it on a KVD composite crank bait rod that I fish wake baits and shallow square bills on with 12lb copolymer . I have no experience in hard swim bait fishing...do these produce better in cold water or warm water? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 11, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 11, 2021 7' M/MF Falcon BuCoo, Daiwa Eliminator 2500, 8lb AbrasX. The action is pretty decent but I wish they sank faster. Quote

Also have you had luck in cold water with these or are they a warm water bait for you? Quote

The lake I fish most in the winter they feed on big gizzard shad. If I ever get over to the other power plant lake where they eat a lot of smaller shad I'll probably give it a shot though. Quote

I have a series of cold clear water ponds about 15 miles from my house that has some studs in it. I've caught several in the 5lb range the past few years but have seen fish in the 8+ range maybe even bigger. Anyhow the pond has alot of small gills and green sunfish plus the state stocks it with rainbows a few times a year..figured a bluegill or trout colored one slow rolled after ice out may get me a giant. Only one way to find out I guess. 3 Quote

ThatFishingGuy Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 How do you guys fish this? I got one a while back and would make a cast, let it sink, then give it a slow steady retrieve but it always seems to make it's way back up to the surface instead of staying down at the depth I want it. I'm fishing it on a 7' medium/moderate cranking stick, 5:1 reel and 12-14lb mono. Totally new to swimbaits so I'd appreciate some help! Quote

That should help keep it down. 1 Quote
