Snakeheads sound even worse and are probably just as slimy. I just wish that there was a way to catch them on a rod without snagging. Imagine fighting a 30lb jumping carp. We don’t need people eating them. That just creates a meat market. We need them gone not creating jobs 1 Quote
Whatever Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 Marketing is a bizarre concept. The highly favored Chilean Sea Bass, was formerly the Patagonia Toothfish. The name was changed strictly for marketing, and it worked, once the FDA signed off on this. Maybe "Chicken of the Lake?" Quote

The DNR was handing it out fried at the bass master classic in 2019. create a meat market for Asian carp and that will guarantee we will never be rid of them Only a starving person would eat a nasty fish like a carp. The truth is they will most likely never be able to eliminate asian carp from Illinois and other states just like they where not able to get rid of the wild boar, common carp, and the many other non native animals that are thriving throughout the country. Another thing is many non native fish have high levels of methyl mercury and other nasty chemicals in their meat. For years people have tried all kinds of methods to get rid of asian carp and in the end the asian carp are still thriving. 17 hours ago, georgeyew said: If people will eat snakehead, I don't see why they won't eat asian carp. The Northern Snakehead and bullseye snakehead have decent tasting meat unlike the asian carp. Both of these snakeheads are thriving and will most likely continue to thrive regardless of how many people harvest them. 1 Quote

Carp is nasty rubber meat with deep red streaks 1 Quote
Sir Shamsalot Posted February 10, 2021 Posted February 10, 2021 The goofy thing is, the common carp was brought over and introduced into the waters in the early 1800's as a food source way long before the Asian species. Because of its bone structure, the fish is usually cooked whole, like trout, and eaten in a similar manner. I've never tried it. If there was someone around who knew how to make it correctly, I'd give it a shot. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted February 10, 2021 Super User Posted February 10, 2021 This is my secret family recipe: Remove organs and clean the cavity. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, stuff with sliced lemons then finish with oregano, thyme and rosemary. Place the stuffed fish on a cedar shingle and grill for 30 minutes. Remove the fish and serve the plank. 4 3 Quote
schplurg Posted February 11, 2021 Posted February 11, 2021 They changed the name of prunes to dried plums and sales supposedly went up. https://www.bizjournals.com/sacramento/stories/2001/09/03/daily8.html We've changed the name of some products where I work and that affected sales as well. Humans are easy to manipulate. 1 Quote

Humans are easy to manipulate. Indeed they are. And if they like something, they will want more. And someone will want to capitalize monetarily on this wanting more. Which is the exact reason why we don’t need people developing a taste for Asian carp!!! 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 11, 2021 Super User Posted February 11, 2021 I wonder why dog/ cat food companies have not jumped on this opportunity? Cost reduced to "processing". 10 million pounds of fish for free. Quote
