Some interesting breakdowns on BassMaster tournaments in regards to fishing style and techniques. This is definitely an interesting watch.

I came across this while browsing my YouTube feed this morning and now just watched it. Interesting stuff and well thought out. But like he mentions himself, a lot of the anglers use a variety of baits so how can you really confidently say “xyz” is the best shallow bait?

Not to mention the possibility of an angler winning a tournament fishing both offshore and shallow.

I really enjoy his video's.  I already have that one open and waiting in tab for later this morning.

I don't watch him a bunch, but I really love his data-driven approach. I also feel like I'm not in a position to really draw much benefit from his analysis given that I primarily fish from the bank.

That would make it pretty difficult........

I like this guy. I have watched some videos on reading graphs better etc. I think my issue with this analysis, is that there are too many other variables when it comes to catching fish. I think some size of baits, and colors, along with weather patterns can skew data like this because the trials of this "experiment" are not in a controlled environment with the same conditions of the experiment every time.

Right, if everyone uses bait X, then the number of fish caught on the said bait is likely to be higher simply due to being fished more often, unless it doesn't work. At the same time if it doesn't work, then I don't think so many people would be using it. It's more indicative of what generally works for people as a whole group and how the group's thought process changes in different situations.

I thought it was a rather interesting analysis overall more so than a "guide per say". But then if you're a beginner and from up north and watching this and you decide to fish a drop shot more because drop shots tend to work well up north, or throw a deep diving crankbait more in deep water or whatever it is, you're not entirely getting steering the wrong direction either.

I like his stuff, my only issue is usually the way he presents it. The monotone voice is okay for short videos, but makes it harder to watch longer ones.

I don't mean he should go full Mark Zona for every video, but it would help to break down the script into clear sections and vary the tone from time to time. There's a reason why I can stick with Matt Allen for 40 minute clips and don't feel like I'm doing my homework, the dude just knows how to talk to an audience - but this is the kind of thing you can improve. I mean, just look at his early-early stuff.

Same goes for Randy Blaukat's videos. The man is a veritable source, but those recently-divorced-dad-dashboard-videos are not the best way to keep me engaged.

I like his stuff.  There are always more variables than you can control for, but you do the best you can with what you have.

Before or after he asked you to pay $20 to get the spreadsheet?? :wink7:

Don't care for him , myself, but I respect the data & effort B)

I always find whatever Schultz says to be completely the opposite of anything I find out on the water. Which is very ironic because almost everything blaukat says seems to ring mostly true

I got copies of 3.0 and 5.0 around here somewhere

Lotus as well

Now I just need an old computer that'd run them...

I recently tried watching some of Randy's videos and in each one of them he does this snorting, snotting, disgusting throat clearing noise. Nope. Off it goes.

Fishing is supposed to be fun, not a research project!
