TriStateBassin106 Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Anyone here use the bigger gulp minnows for bass fishing? I always use the 1inch for crappie and panfish but recently they started selling the bigger 4inch ones at my tackle stores. Good Drop shot bait maybe? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 2, 2021 Super User Posted February 2, 2021 3" Minnows and Leeches are good for smallmouth on a drop shot. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted February 2, 2021 Super User Posted February 2, 2021 They work well for walleye and sauger 2 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 2, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 2, 2021 No way I could count how many 18+” smallmouth I’ve caught with the 2.5 inch ones 1 Quote

I usually buy the ones in the jar though, not the bag. I think the jar ones are Gulp Alive. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted February 2, 2021 Super User Posted February 2, 2021 At a sporting goods store I shop at, they had a large aquarium set up with a pump in the bottom. A guy from Berkley dumped in two bags of 2.5" Gulp minnows and turned the pump on. Probably the most realistic shad ball I'd ever seen. People that came in thought they were real fish. I'd like to try this bigger size also for LM bass. Quote
Swampdonkey fishing Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I used the cabelas speed shad in 2.5” and I caught 25 nice sized bass with them in 3 hours, I would stand in the water and fish would eat it right in front of my legs I went thru the whole pack that day. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 2, 2021 Super User Posted February 2, 2021 Speed Shad is nothing like Gulp! Congrats on a great day, though. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted February 2, 2021 Super User Posted February 2, 2021 small ones are the fly in my float and fly right now... 2 Quote

Sir Shamsalot Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I use the 4" Gulp Crawler Worm on a small jig head in hard to find chartreuse and swim them like a minnow. Catches everything from largemouths to rainbow trout. The problem is that they're hard to find. When I do find them, oddly only at Walmart, I buy them up. Based on that, I have faith the 4in minnows would work. Quote
Peddiesake Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 I’ve used the 2” on a floating fly approach and caught many bass. Largest was 5lbs in Feb. several years ago. Quote
padon Posted February 3, 2021 Posted February 3, 2021 the 3 inch ones work well on drop shot for bass and will catch just about anything else too. Quote

We're confused what your post has to do with this thread. This is about Gulp! minnows, and what size we use for bass. The baits you posted about have zero in common and seem out of place. I've used other baits, and caught tons of bass on them, but narrowed my comment to Gulp! minnows. Do you use Gulp! minnows? If so, what size and on what type of rig? 1 Quote

I do use them I think the first half of my response was deleted because the first half was about gulp minnows I was comparing them, I normally use them on a drop shot rig normally works for me in the 2.5 in I think 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 3, 2021 Super User Posted February 3, 2021 Nobody has deleted anything. Thanks. Quote
EzyEric Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 3in on darter head is one of my most effective techniques. Jigging it on drop offs. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 4, 2021 Global Moderator Posted February 4, 2021 A 3" Gulp minnow on a 1/8oz head was my Ned rig before I knew what a Ned rig was. I've caught so many smallmouth, largemouth up to 5lbs, tons of walleyes, crappie, white bass, wipers, catfish, drum, anything that eats little fish really. The price is what keeps me from using them anymore. I use 3" power minnows instead. 2 Quote
Luke Barnes Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Ive used them for float and fly and on a drop shot. Both ways have caught me fish. They are my go to when it gets really tough and slow. I hate that the Panfish bite the tails off though!! Quote
