Just received my jig order from https://jimmydsriverbugs.com. I noticed the Spring Bear hair jigs on his website and decided to pick up a few. The description on the website reads

"This is what a Black Bear is wearing after “sleeping” all winter. The hair is super soft yet strong. The length of the hair is amazing. The Spring Bear’s action is almost “creepy” along the bottom."

Anyhow I was wondering what the main differences are between these and bucktail jigs and if anyone has any experience fishing these.

I also ordered some bucktail football head jigs and even a red/white one based on his suggestion. Can't recommend this guy enough. Jigs use Mustad hooks and he will tie specific patterns upon request.

I can't imagine there's anything different about fishing them as opposed to a bucktail jig.  As with all jig fishing, each of us comes up with our subtleties that can't be developed without actually spending time fishing them. So, fish them, and post up some results.

We used Polar bear hair before it was outlawed a few years ago. Put the jig in water, if the hair flares out it’s good.

Caution....do not add any attractant to your trailers that mats the hairs. Only attractant I use is a drop of pure 100% anise oil to a jar of pork rind trailers.

If the hair doesn't Flare out then washer them with Dawn soap and rinse in warm water.

Tom

PS, good looking jigs!
