I just got my new reels. First Diawa BC I’ve ever owned. My first impressions (I’m no expert by any means so these might not matter to you). I’ve only had Curado CU-201 since the 90’s.

Very small in hand compared to my Curado cu-201 but once I mounted it on a rod I did find it comfortable.
Doesn’t hold much line. I put Big Game mono backer on it about half the spool then Big Game mono main line. First cast I went down to the backer.

Wow does this thing cast long distance. I was using a 1/2oz sinker. I couldn’t see where it landed and it went down to my backer line.
When I set it up I did the spool tightness so the weight would go to the floor without much over spin. Magnetic brake set to 60%. Every cast I could feel a birds nest starting and then the brakes would kick in and no birds nest at all. That impressed me.

All in all I like it and was in my price range. I’m sure I’ll get used to it once I get out on the water

What?  Am I missing something here?

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this post. I got 2 Daiwa Rods for Christmas and just had to order 2 Daiwa BC's. Just came in today. Unfortunately we're iced in...I'll leave them in the box to keep the dust off them til ice out. ?

Good luck with them!

Press the button like you're going to cast, and loosen the spool tension knob. Eventually the spool will click if you put your thumb on it and push it side to side. Then tighten it to the point it doesn't click but if you loosen it anymore, it will click.

With a lot of reels, you adjust the knob so your bait falls slow but with the Daiwas, you pretty much adjust them as loose as you can to the point the spool doesn't click, it's pretty much set it and forget it.

It’s funny you posted this, I was reading the “user’s guide” and it mentioned that you set the tension just enough where you take the side to side play out of it. If I’m reading your posts correctly your suggesting to leave a little side play?

Sorry, not trying to beat s dead horse here. ?

I have a slight amount of play on all my Tatula's and my Fuego reels. I tend to rely on my thumb help eliminate any overruns. Adjust them to your comfort level.

Don't have one complaint with mine honestly. Been using it for a long time without any issue on daily use. Impressed me so much that I am considering buying the Tatula LT spinning reel if anyone has any feedback on those.

I tighten it so there is no noticeably play. I learned this from Brett Ehrler and he said to loosen it until the spool just begins to click, so I guess it's a fine line.

That sounds right. The brakes are effective enough where you shouldn't need a lot of resistance. I do the same thing when skipping only I turn the brakes up to 16-20, and usually use the SV but the same generally applies to the CT.

What do you have your breaks set at for casting normally?

It depends on the rod. In normal conditions 6-10, usually 6-8. In wind, 10-12. I believe I mentioned above there is an exact setting where casting under normal conditions is almost impossible to birds nest, usually 8 or 9, sometimes 10. It depends on the rod and weight of the lure. Usually I'll go a click or two below that and use my thumb, sometimes I'll keep it there if I don't care about distance.

I'm glad this helped so many people. I thought everyone would have known this by now.

Check the videos out a little down this thread from fishnkamp. I bought a tatula ct earlier this summer then just picked up another 2 from the tacklewarehouse christmas deal. Loved the first one and hope the 2 new ones are just as good. I used the videos from this thread to help set them up (ignore the fact it says fuego, the breaking systems are the same). This was my first baitcaster ever, had never thrown one in my life before this summer. Used it for a solid week and the only time I had a serious blowup was my fault when I caught someone elses line in the boat on my cast lol.
