Palomar is the tried and true braid knot, whether single or double, but a double line uni is also surprisingly good, though it burns up (uses) more line to tie. Can’t go wrong with either.

Somehow, I had the idea that the standard Palomar would slip with braid and needed to be tied a special way? What did I miss?

I've had absolutely no problem with the Uni Knot.  Occasionally I will use the Fish N Fool Knot....which is simply a Uni but going through the eye twice.

Not sure, but I’ve never had one slip, and it’s the only knot I used for nearly 30 years...but feel free to double it if it makes you feel better - won’t hurt a thing.

Palomar! Clinch knot will work on the 65 lb braid but slips on the 20 lb and under

I've had good luck with simply using the same improved clinch knot that I've used with nylon for years. Don't know why I've not had problems with it slipping. Maybe I'm the only one in the world this way, but it has worked just fine for me. If I were you, I'd try it, but still be aware that some people have had problems.       jj

Palomar.
Snell for all bottom contact.

9-turn clinch knot.

(Not improved. And do not double the line.)

It may not cinch up well every time...sometimes you have to cut it off and try again.

Be careful, if tied well it can be very strong.

I use a Trilene knot for every type of line, but for braid I do a second wrap through the loops at Step 3. I don't even remember when or why I started doing it, but I have never had one come loose.

Fish-n-fool uni knot has never failed or slipped on me, and I use more braid than anything else.

Same here. I have never had the uni fail. I use it for all line.

Another vote for palomar.  Snell flipping hooks.

Wild card - San Diego Jam for large lures.  I.e. Alabama/Umbrella rig.  Eliminates passing the lure through the loop.

I've used the uni knot as long as I've been using braid with the doubled line uni for my punch rigs.

Uni knot looks better too... if that matters. I wish I could say looks don't matter to me, but they do. While the Palomar is a tried and true workhorse of a knot, it just don't look as clean as a good uni to me.

You know, this is one of the most amazing questions in fishing.

I'm a true braid believer.  Use it on every rod, reel, lure combination.  Have ever since it came out 30 or so years ago.

I had a world of trouble with knots when it came out.   Couldn't find one that would hold.  I built a knot testing jig in my basement to try to find a knot that would work.  Tried them all:  Palomar, Cinch, Improved Cinch, Uni Knot, San Diego Jam, I tried them all.  This was not a BS test.   I had a set of high quality scales with a tell - tale that would tell me accurately when the line, or knot failed.  Couldn't get anything to  hold.  Then I tried a round turn around the hook eye and a 7 turn uni-knot.  Long before that Doofus Pennaz called it a fishing fool knot.  Tied it with a round turn in the hook eye and 7 turns of a uni.  Always broke the line rather than the knot.

I see a lot of people, including some big name pro's, that tie a palomar.  Now, I know they are not BS'ing when they say it works for them, but I have never made it work.  Still can't.  Round turn and uni-knot for me.

Up until fairly recent years all I ever used was an improved clinch and I never had a problem. Now I primarily use a uni but for some applications I'll use a snell. The only time I use a palamar is for a drop shot and I would love to find a replacement.
