I’ve had that happen with several reels, maybe try flipping the washers back the other way. I’ve gotten them all to work normally it just takes some fiddling

Hi, welcome to the forum....

Things like this are always hard to diagnose without seeing the reel first hand but I have a few guesses....

If I understand it correctly, you took the handle off, drag star, and washers but did not open up the reel?

First, it could be the sleeve on the main drive shaft is not set correctly.  Generally these have a notch that inserts into a plate and a washer that sits on top of it.  Once the tension is off of it when it is removed it can get out of place.

Next, the drag star has to match up correctly on the shaft.  There's usually a lip on it that the drag star has to rest on.  If these get out of whack, it can cause the reel to bind up.

Again just guesses but you can find the schematic here under the 2019 tab.  Good luck...  Also, DVT will probably have an expert opinion as well.

Do you have the exploded diagram? Something is not seated properly or put back together in the wrong order. The schematic will help you verify it's all in place.
