Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 25, 2020 Super User Posted November 25, 2020 I was dead set on the Raymarine Dragonfly 5Pro. Compact was the key. I also love the single plug in the back since it will need to come off and on every time I head out. I do not want a big giant unit. I currently run the ubiquitous Garmin Striker 4. It’s okay and gets it done. But more detail would be beneficial. I love casting to structure. looks like the Dragonfly series is being fazed out! I think I can still find new-old stock at this point. Not sure if the dragonfly counts down battery voltage which is another feature I love. Anyone know? anyone running a dragonfly gonna tell me it will be worth the search? Quote
r3825 Posted November 29, 2020 Posted November 29, 2020 I have a 7 pro from a jon boat I restored, nice little unit but too small for the boat I'm on now. Great downscan and picture Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted November 30, 2020 Author Super User Posted November 30, 2020 I just ordered a Lowrance Reveal. It will be nice since the Hobies have teamed up with Lowrance and I won’t have to fabricate brackets and stuff. 20 hours ago, r3825 said: I have a 7 pro from a jon boat I restored, nice little unit but too small for the boat I'm on now. Super User flyfisher Posted November 30, 2020 Super User Posted November 30, 2020 If you are looking for more detail you will want a larger screen. For me in my kayak I have a Helix 5 and next time I am going at least 7 or 9 if my budget will allow for it Quote

GTN-NY Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 I just bought a Striker 7cv and upgrading from a Lowrance Hook2 5 for my kayak. I hear good things about the 7CV. Quote

I hear good things about the 7CV. I’m buying from West Marine. If I hate it I might jump up to the 7CV. But oddly enough, I want a smaller unit. I want less stuff to hang up on. By hang up, I mean me. I need all the real estate to shimmie back on board if I go over. I climb back easy with the tiny Garmin Striker 4. It’s in the other side of my entry point and I slide up next to it. It’s just me. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 1, 2020 Global Moderator Posted December 1, 2020 I really liked the looks of the Dragonfly myself but ended up with a cheaper Lowrance for now. Depth and water temps are the main things I need to know with mine anyways and it does that. Quote
