Looking to invest in a warm pair of fishing gloves for fall/winter fishing. I’d prefer fingerless so that I don’t need to remove them to retie or unhook fish. I also have large hands and often struggle to find gloves that fit me well.

what are your favorite gloves For fishing?

Which FM model do you use? There’s lot to choose

I have the FM half finger wooly glove. I just got them and have only been out twice when it was cold enough to use them. Here are my initial impressions. The first time I went out it was 38 degrees and a slight wind. The gloves definitely help to keep your hands warm but I would be lying if I said my fingers didn't get cold, but that is to be expected from a half finger glove. I use sun gloves in the summer and these certainly feel different and take some getting used to. I used them to do everything I normally would: re-tie, release fish, use my phone, etc. and they didn't interfere at all. The next day it was 40 with a strong north wind and sprinkling. Here is where I messed up. I wore them from the time I got out of the truck till I got to my fishing spot, my mistake. By that time they were damp and weren't worth having on. I should have used a different pair until I got ready to fish and used these for fishing. Lesson learned. I think they will be a great glove and much better than what I have tried in the past.

keeping my hands dry is key for me. i use nitrile gloves in 4 mil thickness and that works down to the low forties air temp. might try 7 mil this year. to fish in the mid to high thirties or with a lot of wind i need to throw some polypro glove liners under the nitrile gloves.

I also use half finger wool gloves.......they have a thin leather palm sewn in too.  I have had them so long I don't even remember the brand.

Its hard to keep wool gloves dry if your catching fish or picking grass of hair jigs.  It still insulates when its set but its not nearly as warm as it is when its dry.  Synthetic materials are the way to go IMO.  Is hard to fish in full finger gloves, so if you can wear fingerless gloves without being to cold they are the best option.  There are glomits which are fingerless gloves, with a fold over mitten that can cover your fingers.  The idea is good, when the mitten isn't being used and its Velcrod to the back of the glove it makes it hard to get into pockets.

Fish Monkey Wooly half finger for cool/Fall weather.  But use the FM Tundra with pull off mitt that exposes fingers for cold/winter fishing.

Aka the setup professional bbq folk use. I can honestly say I haven’t even considered this for fishing. But I’m going to try it

What do you consider to be cold weather? Below freezing?

I prefer not to use any gloves when fishing. I like the feel of the rod and reel in my bare hands but I don’t usually fish in anything below about 40 degrees. When I hunt and it’s below freezing I use gloves but above that I prefer no gloves to operate the gun more efficiently.

I have a pair of Outdoor Research Fairbanks Gloves. Winters here aren't too bad nowadays but I've found that I can wear them for as cold as I am willing to fish.

For those that have the Monkey Half Wool, how is the sizing?  The sizes available is either S/M or L/XL.  My hands are M/L.  Which one should I go with?

These cabelas guide wear gloves have been the best gloves I have used so far for cold weather fishing.  I use them steel head fishing and ice fishing in the winter.  They are made out of neoprene.  They can get a little wet and still stay warm.  I can chuck a crank and reel it in on a bait caster with no problem while wearing them.

I think this will be my 4th year with them .  I believe I only paid about $45 for them

Lets give this a bump.

Im from San Diego & fish bass from shore all summer & winter long.

My hands get straight-up ice cold & numb, anxiety just thinking about it.

I have to have full fingers & can toss the bait caster just fine using full finger gloves.

Dont re-rig much during a session as I have plenty of rods pre-rigged. Ide rather take gloves off to re-tie vs fishing half-fingers, Half-finger gloves wont keep me warm.........

Ive tried fishing monkey fleece & they just suck, dont keep my fingers warm at all.

Really sucks to not be able to try various options in the store before investing in some serious $$, some of these gloves are $40-$50+

Emailed TW & they say the right answer is Gill performance glove, dont see that being warmer than the fleece or wool.

Then they said get a second Gill Tourny glove, those look like ski gloves from what I see online & are made for driving the boat in the wind. Im not doing that!

Im cold now just thinking about it!

So any other good options out there we may be overlooking?

I have the Gill Waterproof Gloves (sku 7500GS) and they're good for fishing but obviously not for tying knots and that sort of thing. Might be worth a shot.

I emailed Gill earlier over that specific question, how does the wp glove compare to the performance glove as far as dexterity goes.... TW doesnt stock the wp so obviously they wouldnt have recommended it.

Sorry, I just saw this. I wear M/L hunting gloves but I went with the S/M in the FM because I figured I would much rather them be too snug as opposed to too loose. I made the right choice as I don't find them to be too tight at all.

These have Merino wool inside. How warm are they? What state are you in?
