I'm looking for a second reel for throwing all plastics along with my SS SV. Things from zoom finesse/trick worms, creature baits, up to 5 inch paddle tail swim baits on 1/8oz weighted twistlock hook. I use generally 2/0-50 EGW hooks and 1/16oz and 1/8oz bullet weights. These two setups will be 95% plastics. Possibly lighter spinner baits but not very often at all. I was looking at the I'd like to spend around $200-$225. I was looking at the Tatula Elite and Zillion SV.

Thank you

That application doesn’t require anything special. Just pick a reel with line capacity, profile and braking you prefer.

Ok awesome thank you

DVT nailed it, but if you have reel-itis, Alphas CT SV can be had on Amazon Japan for a nice price.  I bought a second a couple weeks ago for $180 shipped to my door.  That's substantially cheaper than everybody else.

Wow, if I can figure out how to read the prices and shipping and make sure I get it ordered correctly, I am grabbing one of those.

When you're going to checkout, it will show you the total price with shipping included in USD before the order is placed.  They have a nice deal right now on the right hand retrieve 6.3 and 7.2 ratios https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Daiwa-Bait-Reel-Alpha-Model/dp/B07N22GTJ6/  Prices fluctuate frequently so it pays to check back often if you don't see a price you're comfy with.  I also got my Revo ALC-BF7 from there for $160 shipped.

Thanks again!   How do you like the Alphas CT SV?

It's my most used reel if that says anything.  I fish bass, trout, and panfish with it.  The comfy lower limit is a little under 1/8 ounce.  I like to use 1.5" Charlie Brewer Slider Grubs on a 1/16 head, total weight I measured was 2.8 grams.  The most ideal range for baits will be in the 1/8 to 1/2 range.  It uses the same spool as the Steez CT SV.

Alphas 105 or alphas ct. prefer the 105.  Sold my alphas ct. Super smooth real but I just wasn’t crazy about the spool. Just me though. Other people like it

iabass, I was going to throw this question out to you too.  It seems like you have the Daiwa thing figured out as well.  You can’t get an Alpha 105 anymore, can you?   I thought the Alpha CT SV might be a good replacement, and with deal Red threw out there, it sounds like a winner.  Please advise.  Just for reference, I have a Zillion SV and Tatula SV’s and like them both.

Ebay is pretty flooded /w a lot of preowned alphas105  from Japan. I'm not big on buying used JDM reels but you can find some good deals here and there. You'll likely have to replace the gears which are readily available from the TackleTrap but if you can find a good deal on them new, i'd go that route. The Alphas CTSV is kind of a niche reel. Buttery smooth but I just wasn't a fan of the spool. I'm also not a big fan of the t31016 spool either so take that for what it's worth. It isn't a direct replacement of the Alphas 105. I wanted to use it for things the spool capacity didn't cater to. If it had a spool close to a 103 capacity, i'd have a couple of them for sure. Couldn't find a place for it so I sold it. If you have something you wanna cast like 10# fluoro/mono with, it will be a slam dunk at 180$. Spools a little quicker than a traditional SV spool you're used to as well but it isn't bad. There might be some pictures floating around on this site from when I got it and showed the spool size but I don't have any handy. It's a super, super tiny spool.

A good place to look is Ichiban Tackle, they have a used section and some decent prices as well.  Last I looked they were selling the 105 for as little as $100 and the SV105 for $140-ish all depending on condition.  Shipping isn't too shabby either.

Darn it, this gets confusing not being able to see and handle these beauties.  Then with all the after market and JDM stuff.   Wow.  I really appreciate your knowledge, ideas, and buying info.  Just wish I had more of your knowledge and experience.  I really like my Zillion SV for skipping and pitching.  I will check out some of these other reels, but maybe the Alphas CT SV isn’t right for me.  I really want to use it for light jigs, t rigs, and weightless Senkos.   Nothing over 3/8 oz.

Theres a fuego ct sv just came out as well for 140$ (ish) if you want to save money. It’s probably not coming stateside so you’re going to have to order it from across the pond

The only way you get experience is by dipping your toe in the water ;)

Lol, but the water seems cold sometimes and it shrivels up like a frightened turtle.

No worries, you should be pretty happy with that Zillion. I've been using the prior generation Tatula SVs for a while now and that would be my suggestion for lighter soft plastics. The Tatula Elite would be pretty good as well, but that's designed more for distance than control and often with lighter soft plastics, the control is worth it.

I've bought and returned the new Tatula SV. Wasn't happy with it's casting distance. I also had a Tatula elite and it was awesome, minus the grinding noise when reeling in. It was the spool somehow. I swapped with my tatula CT and the noise went to the CT when reeling in. The zillion will be for the 1/8oz weighted plastics, paddle tail swimbait and senko the "heavier" plastics

zillion sv is a great reel for senkos. make sure you clean the snot out of the bearings. It will really free up the reel. I don't like stock daiwa bearings but if you keep it stock, clean them really well. It makes a night and day difference in the tatula/zillion sv lines.

Awesome thank you! Can I pop off the shields for a good cleaning? What bearings do you swap them out with?

I always do but i know how to do it w/o damaging the cage. Theres some finesse to it but its fairly straightforward.

Im a huge fan of zpi SIC and hedgehog air HD. Hedgehog ZR are very good bearings and very affordable as well.

What do you use to pop off the little retainer clip that holds the clip in? Last time I tried I couldn't seem to get it off.
