I think I know my answer but want to check with more knowledgeable anglers. Will the Zillion SV spool fit in my Daiwa SS SV? Will the casting performance be better? Is this the spool that TT sells or how is that one different?

I'm looking to increase the casting performance in my SS SV along with gain some line capacity of possible.

Thank you

Hey does the Steez 103HA have a red spool inductor? Does the bearing just sit on there or is it in a little housing like the SS SV bearing is? Lastly is the worm gear made of black plastic?

Is the Daiwa px 68 R a good reel you were saying? Between these two three Steez I can only imagine right?

Thank you!

My Steez 103's have purple inductors IIRC. No the bearing was not in an adapter, but if someone changed out the bearings to something like the hedgehog BFS air bearings, it is possible that it would be a smaller bearing in a cage.

Yes, the PX68 is a good reel at least in my opinion. It is a smaller 70 size reel. On the 3 I have I added 2 handle bearings (it only comes with 1 per side) and a level-wind bearing.

As far as the worm gear being plastic? I don't really know. I never noticed that it was, but then again I may have just never noticed and it was.

If you are still looking for great older Daiwa reels, look at the Japanese Dream at Ichiban. It's a heavier reel, a special issue version of the Zillion to commemorate the great sunami that swamped Japan and caused so much damage. They are very nice, highly sought after reels and are generally very smooth workhorse reels.

I do appreciate all your info. One thing I do really like is lighter reels. I think I might look into the Alphas 105. I want to be about to throw plastics on this reel unweighted and with 1/16 and 1/8oz bullet weight

i think the PX68 might be the better choice. It is a very light reel being magnesium (5.6 oz) and designed for things like you mention. The Alphas is a good reel too but it is heavier and a little newer and I don't think it will throw as low as the PX.

Now the newer Alphas Air is better at the light stuff than the PX, and the SS AIR even better than that.

The PX was a $450 reel new.

There looks like two different models, the Pixy and the SPR.

Alphas SV 105, might get a little bit better distance compare to SV 103 (inductor modified). Pixy all variants (except SPR) would do a better job, but if you want new, maybe Alphas CT SV. Try smaller line diameter 6-8lb mono or 8-10lb braid.

BTW nothing wrong with plastic worm gear.

If Lew's, ABU, or heaven forbid the company with a number for it's name had done it first I wonder how that would've gone over? Actually I don't have to wonder. Ya know? You know. Yes you do.?

Have you checked out this review?  http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwapixyspr.html  Seems SPR stands for "Small Plug Revolution".  It does better than the standard PX...according to this review.  Wouldn't mind have one on a dedicated rod.

The SPR has a centrifugal brake and is set up for throwing small crank baits, SO  if that is what you want to do then the SPR might be a better choice, but to say that the SPR is just better in not accurate. It is a special purpose reel and excels at that one thing.

I meant better at throwing small crankbaits.  If the OP reads the review, he will know what I meant.  I can see I wasn't clear enough for anyone just reading my comment.
