I'm guessing that like most, I have a favorite lake I fish  the most and have some pretty deliberate patterns of how I fish.  I know the lake like the back of hand.  Occasionally, I fish it different just to stir things up or I might be trying a new technique or some new tackle or something.  I did that today and Man those days can be tough.  I caught fish all day but just never seemed right  and my froggin.....ooooof.  I think I've been here long enough and posted about enough for most to know I'm an AVID frogger.  Today I felt like a rookie.  I could NOT hook up.  My timing was all over the place and out of maybe 12 blow ups I boated...wait for it.....ZERO fish.  I haven't had a day like that in a decade.  I dunno what was wrong and I'm not really discouraged.  More puzzled than anything.  Tackle was fine, technique pretty well dialed in.  Timing?  Waaaaaaaay off.  Bad enough I was concerned about my health but I seem to be fine.  Oh well...just one of those days

The last week I've lost 3 fish on a frog after I replied to a post giving advice on how to hook up on a frog. Today I went out put my head down and threw the frog. Only had 2 blow ups but got both..both around 3.5lbs. Felt like I got some redemption.

I fish a toad a lot and some days it just seems like they wanna slap the crap out of it but not really commit to eating it

Because I dont fish around weeds I can switch to a popper usually allows me to hook up at a better rate during those days

I have tried the popping frog but seems like when they slap at the toad they also slap at the popping frog

More puzzled than anything.

"More puzzled than anything", and therein lies the solution.

You're wise to turn a defeat into a challenge

Oh yeah....I've had off days before just like we all have.  If you're doing it right, those should just rekindle a spark.  I mean, this isn't life or death.  It's just fishing and even on those days, I'd still rather be doing that than working!
