I just got the Hook Reveal 5x for my kayak.  This model does not come with side imaging.  Now I'm thinking I should have gone with the 7 with SI.  I'm not sure if the screen is going to get in the way when I fly fish but I guess that is a chance I can take.  Thoughts on SI for shallower lakes (20' or less)?  And for a stupid question ?, can you see fish on SI or is it mostly used to detect bottom structure?

Does the TD need to be out of the way of a paddle stroke?  I have the 5 mounted using a YakAttack side arm mount right about where my feet pegs are.

Thoughts?

After reviewing all of the great feedback I decided to upgrade! ?

Actually, I read a bunch of blogs and watched dozens of videos. I decided to upgrade to the Hook Reveal 7x with SI. I have not had it on the water yet. But I did use the 5x and liked it. Bass Pro was happy to exchange it.

I’m using the YakAttack Switchblade with the fish finder mount.  I had the 5x mounted as far forward on the track as it would go. When I was fly fishing the display only caught my line once in about 50 casts so no big deal.

The Tripledshot transducer is 10” long. I don’t think it will interfere with my paddle stroke as it is right at the side of the yak. I’m hoping to get out this weekend and start learning how the best set it up.

Glad I could help! ;)

I mounted my transducer where the rudder would go, right on the back. I have a Wilderness Systems Ride 115. There are two holes for a rudder so I made a simple mount out of aluminum.

I also made a rail-mount for my unit that I can rotate and move the FF out of the way, or slide it long the rail if needed.
