Have on order a helix 10 msi + g3n for my small 16ft bass boat. Haven’t fully decided if I’m going to mount on console and spin it when I’m up front or mount it on the bow and add a second smaller unit for console. Question is if I got with a helix 7 for the console should I just get the helix 7 msi g3n and don’t working about linking. Still confused how the linking works and doesn’t seem cost effective when u have to add everything else.

I am betting you can mount a 10 at the bow and see it from the console.  I’d get someone to position it while I sat at the console and made my decision.

I guess it would depend on if you are going to use one transducer or go with 2 if you use 2 units. If you are using 2 transducers you could go with a SI at the console with a transom mount transducer and just DI at the bow with a TM transducer. I would want my bigger unit with SI at the console as I spend more time on the big motor using SI to look for structure, ledges, etc.

Great advice.

i appreciate the responses. i never thought of mounting on bow and trying to see it from console.

i also thought about the 2 transdcuers, even thought about moving it during the trip from console to the bow if im fishing in the same area for most of the day.

I often use my bow unit while I'm at the console to show the map so I can go full screen with the sonar on the console unit.  They sell a bluetooth remote that I used to control the bow unit from the console.  It's a little hard to see the maps from the console but it works.  I also take my iPad along sometimes for mapping.

You can get away with getting a large swiveling mount and putting it at the console. All you gotta do is swing it toward the bow whenever you go up to the trolling motor.

To link 2 Helix units you only need two dongles and an Ethernet cable. If you want to add anything else to the network, you will need the Ethernet/network box.
