I just recently discovered the idea of using super glue to keep trailers attached to jigs. Unfortunately my bottle of glue only lasted one trip. When I pulled it out yesterday it had solidified in the bottle.

Any tips on keeping your super glue from going bad?

I know what you mean, I've been there.

The best I've found is "Loctite Super Glue ‘ultra’ Gel Control

(Blue container/ ribbed sides)

Precautions

> When done, bang bottom of bottle on a hard surface then tighten cap securely

> As an extra precaution (I never bother), place bottle in ZipLoc bag and store upright in the frig

I've got a bottle of loctite regular super glue...non gel type...that I bought for something else but have used for fishing related things. Next time I will get the gel just for ease of use/ control of application but I will say I've had the bottle for months and it is still in good shape...girlfriend used it a few days ago.

I always have 2 bottles of super glue gel in the boat.  One for use every trip and the other one in the glove box (new unopened) as a backup when the regular one is empty.  If you close it immediately after use it will last a long time.

+1 ... The only super glue worth using (in my opinion) .

While I don't like 'having' to use it,

there are times where it really does help quite a bit.

As mentioned here a few times, Loktite works well.

It's fast, secure and doesn't seem to 'build up' on a bait too badly,

provided I take my time (and use my readers) when applying it.

Will admit to gluing myself to a bait or two,

as well as temporarily joining a some digits together, especially in the colder weather.

I wish I could help with a tip to keep it fresh, but I prefer the gel that comes in the bottle with the squeeze handles. The gel is so much easier to control. I almost never glue baits to my hands anymore!

I use the same stuff and I am surprised how long it lasts. The bottle is well designed and protects the contents better than anything else I've tried.

I have also bought the cheap 3 packs of super glue from Harbor freight. I can get a few days out of each tube.

I think I paid a $1.00 for  the last 3 pack.

Loctite Gel Ultra - I have had the same bottle in the cup holder of my recessed trolling motor tray for over a year.

Apply it where desired, place trailer - then dip it in water to cure almost instantly.

Wait, what?   Are you saying to dip it in the water right away and it cures it?   I have it and always wait for it to dry before putting it in water.

Yep - water almost instantly cures most super glues.

I use the regular Loctite super glue. The conical black cap fits securely and locks in place. The few times the tip dried up I was able to get it flowing again with a toothpick.

I go with BSI (Bob Smith Industries) - liquid, gap filling, or gel - for all my superglue needs. Been using it for years without an issue. Has the lock-on cap like Loctite, I've had the same bottle of thin liquid that I use for scale model building for 5 years now and it's still fresh-as-new even with only 1/3 of the bottle left.

Most hobby stores buy it from BSI and put their own label on it - so check the fine print on the back if you shop local. In Minneapolis and local - the Hub Hobby 'brand' superglues are BSI.

I had a big bottle of the DAP Rapid Fuse Gel and the whole mess solidified after using only a few drops. Guess I should try the Loctite brand next time.

I use the cheap 3 packs from Harbor Freight and don't worry about the rest of the tiny tube going bad.I've messed up too many bottles of the decent super glue & super gel.

I use the three pack of really little tubes of gel and they actually last quite a while.  If one hardens, I haven't really lost much and just open a new tube.

I use the Gorilla super glue gel. It lasts a long time as long as I put the cap on right.

I try not to use it though. On jigs that don't have a good keeper (most of my jigs) I tie a keeper using 17# or 20# mono...it works really well.

I use Gorilla glue, I keep it in double zip loc bags in a cooler on the boat and in the fridge at home. Always keep it upright...

I use this stuff at work...water thin all the way up to gel. Works like a charm.

with super glue, all you have to do is make sure you store it as upright as possible and keep nozzle buildup to a minimum. I have bottles of glue that are three years old and still kickin.

If you have a nozzle that’s clogged up, just soak it in acetone and pick out the remnants. Super easy and keeps you from having to buy new glue

For a lot of years I used Hot Stuff mostly or Zap for RC Planes and some use in cars. The BSI stuff my dad was getting me from the shop he worked at imo was inferior to the brands I mentioned. It did work just not as well.

For fishing the loctite gel works perfect, as it stays where you need it. It is overpriced for how much you get, but it fits a need.

I don't use it often, but I bought a Krazy Glue superglue pen a few years ago and it's still good. You press the tip down to get it to flow and I just used it the other day and it's still going strong.

I like the Loctite brand. I think the important thing is to use the gel, as opposed to thin super glue, which goes everywhere on fingers, baits etc.
