Water point vs a point?

I understand a point is a body of mass that comes out into the main lake and of course it has either ledges/flats going towards deep water with grass.

 

now what is a water point which doesn’t come from a body of mass sticking out into the main lake?

Still a point - just 'hidden' in a way. Such as this one that's in the bay I normally fish on my lake.

Notice that the underwater point is not associated with a similar 'projection' of the shoreline.

That is a term that is new to me.  I don’t know how you can have a point on a lake without land, be it above or below the water.

Points are points. 

Major point is usually a extension of the terrain above water down into the main lake or major creek arm river channel on man made reserviors.

Secondary points are are smaller points located inside the creek arms or bays.

Main lake points are secondary points located on the main lake body of water.

My guess is the op is asking about secondary points?

My guess was submerged points - ones where there's no obvious indication above the waterline that a point exists...hence the contour map example.

Right now Bull Shoals pretty much has no points showing as it is 40’ above power pool.

The OP is probably referring to what's often called “sunken points”.

They elicit low fishing pressure, because there’s no shoreline projection to advertise their presence,

and they're commonly bypassed by shotgunners,

Look at a topographical map & in your mind remove the water.

 

A point is a point, it could be jutting from the shoreline or totally underwater offshore.

 

The point ya wanna fish is not what you see above the waterline but rather what you find under the water.

And there is a flat there with 2 shallow humps, maybe too shallow.
