Retractable Trolling Motor

I just looked at the photos of Gerald Swindle's new Phoenix 920 Elite in Bass Times and noticed all of the clutter at the bow with his instruments and trolling motor system.

 

So I got to thinking of the additional room we would enjoy if we could get the trolling motor off the deck and control it like we do the power poles, big motor's position, navigation lights, electronics, the trolling motor's speed and its direction with buttons you control with your feet.

 

Something like the front landing gear on a Boeing 747 jetliner with the motor, etc. hidden in the bow area.

 

Since I am not an engineer I can't figure it out, but there must be a way to do this. Have the motor inside the hull and when you need it you step on a button and it deploys ready for action.

 

What do you guys think? Do you think this is possible? Or just something to break or fail in the future?

Sounds like a deal to me but I don’t have the skills to even imagine how it would be accomplished.  I’m still in awe of my Ulterra deploying and stowing with a remote or from my HB screens and all of the functions it has.

10 (or more) years ago, Bassmaster magazine ran an article on the "Bass Boat of the Future."   That was one of the features on the bass boat of the future.  Goes to show that as far as stowable electric trolling motors, the future ain't now.

Anything is possible.  I think at some point you can have too much technology. Like cars today that are autonomous will you just sit in the boat and let it catch the fish?

I remember seeing that too! If I remember right they also envisioned that boats would get far lighter so motors would be smaller and less horsepower, but I don't remember what else it had.

 

I think it would be cool to have a tm that would do that. I have a feeling that if anything ever went wrong though $$$ and time would be rough on us.

The more gadgets you have on your boat, the more things that will break down.  Why not catch fish on your phone?  No effort required other than sore thumbs.  :>)
