Super User Mobasser Posted May 27, 2020 Super User Posted May 27, 2020 When I first got into bass fishing, cotton jumpsuits were popular with many bass fisherman. Many of the pros wore them, usually with a few sponsor patches sewn on. My wife bought me one years ago for my birthday. Mine was a tan color, and I had my B.A.S.S. patch sewn on the front. Actually, I never got used to it. Mine tended to " ride up" a little too much, and wasn't really all that comfortable. I always thought they were kind of a classic bass fisherman's look. Did you guys ever wear one? 2 Quote
Captain Phil Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 OMG NO!! I looked terrible in those things. We wore them because the "pros" wore them in the magazines. If Bill Dance wore a spotted bikini, we would have worn that too!! Some people like Roland Martin looked good in everything. Never helped him win a classic. :>) 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 27, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 27, 2020 There’s a guy that either fishes the Opens or FLW that wears them, a red one in fact. I believe he’s a kayak manufacturer? Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 27, 2020 Super User Posted May 27, 2020 Yes, I well remember when the pros wore jumpsuits, for awhile it seemed like most of them. As for myself, I wouldn't get into a jumpsuit unless I were participating in the SpaceX launch. Roger 1 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 27, 2020 Super User Posted May 27, 2020 My father in law wore them. Must have been a sight when one had to do number two with one on.? 1 Quote
Smells like fish Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 If we buy some vintage ones to wear while fishing or socially do we add the purchase info and pic to the bait monkey tackle thread or do we post here? ? 2 Quote

Super User Mobasser Posted May 28, 2020 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2020 Well, at least I'm not the only one who thought jumpsuits looked stupid. I think I only wore mine two times. Then it hung in the closet for years and donated to a thrift store. No more jumpsuits for me! 1 hour ago, Smells like fish said: We are talking Elvis live in Vegas with the sequin covered white jumpsuit but picture Roland Martin with baitcaster in one hand with huge bass in the other saying thank ya very much! Good one Smells like fish. I needed a laugh? Well, I was younger back then, and greener than a gourd! I thought all the big time bass guys wore a jumpsuit? Bad move.... 1 Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 28, 2020 Super User Posted May 28, 2020 I was of the era of Wrangler Jeans with a crease ironed down the front, Sperry shoes, & Larry Mahan shirt starched & ironed. Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 28, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 28, 2020 Hey the caddies still wear them at the Masters. The big question for the night is, underwear or commando under the jumpsuit? ? Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 28, 2020 Author Super User Posted May 28, 2020 Along with the jumpsuit, the only other thing you needed was a felt western hat like Ray Scott wore. That was the look of the 70s era bassman. Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 28, 2020 Super User Posted May 28, 2020 B.A.S.S. promoted the jumpsuit wearing them during seminars with their patches. The difference between a jumpsuit and bib overalls is the shirt is part of the jumpsuit. Never wore a jumpsuit or bib overalls. Jeans and T-shirts with down vest and ball cap was my fishing uniform in the 70's to 80's. Replaced the ball cap for a broad rim sun hat the past few decades. Tom 1 Quote
