BigAngus752 Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 If you guys ever have the chance to try the hefeweizen made by a small brewery called Riggs Beer Company, do NOT pass it up. I've had more hefeweizens than I could possibly count and this little brewery in Urbana, IL makes one that is in at least the top three I've ever had. The guys that started the brewery grew up in a nearby small town where their parents own an ice cream shop. The boys had a love of beer and went to live in Germany for awhile to learn to do it right. As soon as I can stop drinking their hefeweizen I'm going to try their doppelbock... Quote

It went from a way to relax to a daily fixture in my life. 75 days sober. Congrats on your sobriety! Ditto for me, except it's been almost 15 years. Best decision I ever made and don't miss it. One beer was too many and a barrel wasn't enough. So in that spirit I'll throw in my favorite N/A beers. Top of the list is St. Pauli Girl. It obviously doesn't have that alcohol bite or give you that wonderful light-headed feeling, but it's as close to real beer taste as you can get IMO. Others that I like are Beck's, Clausthaler, Buckler, and Kaliber. Busch N/A is not horrible. Some that are horrible are Sharp's, Coors N/A, O'Doul's and Old Milwaukee N/A. P.S. Heineken 0.0 was a huge disappointment for me. Hardly any flavor at all. Quote
livin2fish Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 My two favorites are Sweetwater 420 and Goose Island. To me, each has a hint of grapefruit taste which is refreshing. Quote
schplurg Posted May 22, 2020 Posted May 22, 2020 Last few years I found a beer with a good cost/alcohol content ratio. Sierra Nevada Torpedo. It's an IPA and it's... - good tasting - has plenty of alcohol - decent price I like Newcastle, stouts and other stuff, and I've made beer a few times too, but the Torpedo meets all the requirements I listed I don't like American beers like Bud and Miller. I mean on a hot day with friends, sitting in an ice chest where you have to wipe the ice off the can top, ya okay. But after a long hard day, that first swig off a cold beer is not going to be one of those. I drink one, sometimes two a night. I take breaks from this routine sometimes and use other methods of relaxation. Gotta mix it up! 2 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 22, 2020 Super User Posted May 22, 2020 This thread has brought back some memories. I used to try it all and often until one day I had a blood clot get in my brain. When I came to in the hospital I was told that if I didn’t want to die I had to quit drinking and smoking. It will be 4 years June 1 since I have a beer or a smoke. So someone have one for me. 4 Quote
