NavyVet1204 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 It’s weird to me at least as it may be common knowledge in the world of braid. I spooled Sufix 832 in a neon lime color(it was on sale) and after a few hours of fishing I noticed that the lime coloring is “powdering” the inside of my reel in the guide and belly area. It took me a good hour with rubbing alcohol and Qtips to get it cleaned up, but it was surprising to see how much of it was packed in there. Again, this may be common knowledge with all the “fancy colored) braid but it struck me as odd. I went ahead and pulled it off and respooled with some spider wire stealth braid in moss green color and it is fine. I’m not bashing Sufix at all. It did it’s job well, but it kept building that residue all over my reel and I wasn’t going to clean it off a third time. Edit: sorry I don’t know why my pics keep loading crooked. Quote
Super User Teal Posted April 26, 2020 Super User Posted April 26, 2020 Wow. I've never seen that happen, but I stick to the green or camo Quote
NavyVet1204 Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 Never seen or heard of it myself. I didn’t know if I had bought a bad spool or it was on sale for a reason. 1 Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 26, 2020 Super User Posted April 26, 2020 Might have been a really old spool, one that maybe didn't pass qc with flying colors..??? Quote
Allen Der Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 never noticed it with 832 but I did have that happen with Pline TCB teflon coated braid. 832 does fade over time so it probably is shedding the color Quote

I know one thing, I’m not buying another spool of fancy colored braid again. It’s moss green or camo for me. Unless I can find a clear. Quote

I doubt it has anything to do with the color, you are just noticing it easier because the neon green has more contrast from your rod guides than the dark green 1 Quote

It was annoying all the same. Quote
NavyVet1204 Posted April 26, 2020 Author Posted April 26, 2020 I do have an unrelated question about spider wire though... why do people seem to not like it? Everywhere I have been recently for this quarantine mess looking at fishing sections I have noticed that when a lot of other lines are sold out there is still a ton of spider wire. Has there been issues in the past with QC? Quote
Tim Kelly Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Completely normal with new braid. Most brands will do that, though you might not notice with darker coloured lines. Spiderwire has so many different braids. Most of them don't suit me, but the smooth 8 is superb line. Been using it on my main spinning rods for 3 or 4 seasons and it works very well, no degradation in that time, no wind knot issues. It suits me. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 26, 2020 Super User Posted April 26, 2020 No clue. I spool braid on by holding it snug between my thumb and first finger. Green Fireline color flaked off and tuned them green. Not done that with any other braid. Maybe the Sufix was really old and dried out? I wouldn't let this experience keep you from trying colored braid. I have some orange Sufix Performance Fuse I found at Ollie's. Good luck finding any mention of this braid on here other than a post I started. $5.99 for 125 yards. Hasn't caused that problem on the reel I have been using it on. I've got blue and Hi-Vis Yellow from Fins that I've been trying. No problem there either. Over time my green Sufix Performance lost its color turning to a whitish pale green. Didn't leave color behind on the reel. At least not like that or bad enough for me to notice it. Color loss didn't hurt the performance of Performance. Many people use colored braid without having your problem. Sufix 832 is an excellent braid. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 Had that happen to regular green Power Pro many years ago and it stained a Citica 200 green on my frog set up and that is when I switched to 832 dark green. I would guess that Power Pro has changed since then. Quote

It held knots well and performed perfectly outside of the powdering issue I had with it. That was a steal at what you paid for that. 11 hours ago, Tim Kelly said: Completely normal with new braid. The stealth braid that I have on both of my Revo SX’s is holding up well. I got two spools at bass pro buy one get one free 125 yds. Quote
