Title says it all. I can’t decide between a daiwa/shimano to pair with my dobyns champ 734. Any help appreciated

Budget is important. But I only know Shimanos cause that's all I have. I'll list them from least expensive to most expensive. You can go cheaper or more expensive but these are all great reels for the price.

in that price range I would pick a Tatula sv.

It runs in price range from$159.00 to $199.00. Depending on where you look.

It is one of the most versatile reels in that price range.

good at casting light baits, skipping, and pitching.

Lots of good reels in that price range, but it appears you want to stick with the top two companies.  Don't know if you will find a Bamtam MGL for $230.  I'd lean towards the Tatula SV as well, but I lean towards Daiwa a bit more than other companies anyway.  :teeth:

No, I haven't used the new Tatula SV yet. I have the Tatula 100, Tatula CT Type-R & Catalina TW in LH. The SLX XT, SLX DC, & SLX MGL 70 in RH. I'm trying to decide between the Tatula SV TW 103 or the SLX DC 70 right now.

I also have the Catalina TW. Wondering if I should just throw it on the 734, and put a cheaper reel on my swimbait rod.

You could, but might be a little too heavy of a combo, depending on your preference, if you're going to throw it a lot. Tatula SV is 6.7 oz vs 7.9 of Catalina and DC 734 weighs about 5.2 oz. I have the Catalina on the Xtasy 755, but it's a slightly lighter rod and used specifically for jigs, so I probably won't be throwing it as much as a more versatile rod like the 734.

Daiwa Coastal SV is another sweet looking reel on a Champion.
