SuperDuty Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 So about two weeks ago I picked up a new Shimano SLX XT reel. Since I’m just getting into BC reels, I want to experiment with different brands to see what I like. I’m going to purchase a Daiwa today but unsure which model. should I start with the tatula 100 or jump up to an SV? Is there going to be big enough differences between these models to justify the price difference? I’ve already dumped a small fortune on gear the past two weeks I so don’t wanna spend the extra coin if it’s not a big jump. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 10, 2020 Super User Posted April 10, 2020 As you no doubt already know the SV will have better control...especially with lighter lures or for skipping. If you aren't looking for a reel for that, then the 100 will be fine. The 100 should provide a bit more casting distance as the SV spool achieves better control by applying a little more braking force. Many people skip and cast light lures without an SV spool. Just takes a bit more practice. I've never handled a 100. I do have the Tat SV. I like it a lot. Nice looking reel. 1 Quote
LonnieP Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 I have a couple SV's and a 100. To me the Sv feels better made and more like a quality reel compared to the 100, but then again I haven't had any problems with the 100. I see no difference in casting distance between the 2. 1 Quote
SuperDuty Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 Thanks for the feedback guys. I Was impatient and just ordered the tatula type-R 100xsl. It’s a sharp looking rig. Maybe I’ll get the SV in a few weeks. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted April 10, 2020 Super User Posted April 10, 2020 Personally I much prefer the looks of the original Type R to the CT Type R. Size of the original doesn't bother me. Never handled a CT. I think you are going to like the reel. 1 Quote
SuperDuty Posted April 10, 2020 Author Posted April 10, 2020 I’ve been a die hard spin cast guy for 30 years now. I bought a shimano bait cast reel in like 1985 or 6 that I paid like $230 for, and paid on that dude for months in lawaway. I was a young kid puttin up hay for a nickle a bale and didn’t have anything else more important to spend money on other than fishing stuff. Hated that reel because of the back lashes and never went back. My son in law is who inspired me to get back into BC reels. Seen the fun he was having with them and decided to give them another try. My youngest son has inspirations ro be a pro bass fisherman so I’m gonna get serious with it again. Quote

No Internet. Set it aside and never used it again after a couple tries with it. This was over 40 years ago. When I got back into fishing in '09 I decided I want to try one of those newfangled low profile baitcast reels. Now I hardly ever touch a spinning reel even though I have purchased a few since getting back into fishing. Also gave the 5001C another try. Amazing what a little knowledge can do. It casts great now...although I hate the tiny handle on it. If you are anything like me, it won't be long before your baitcast reels outnumber your spinning reels. Quote

I agree! I really like the 100 but the SV is sweet! Quote
