Looking to buy a new reel. Can anyone tell me what the zero adjuster spool setting is on the tatula 100?

It's the spool tension knob on the left side by the drag star. It's set at zero from the factory, some like me loosen it up. If your newish to baitcasters, it's best not to mess with it yet.

The idea is, the spool is set to where you get good cast's, and yet to help stop over runs (birds nest's).

Thanks just found a few vids on YouTube about it. I’ve been at this for years so I am experienced with casting reels. I’ve Used them all with the exception of this “zero adjust” technology. From what I gathered from the vids it was stating everything is adjusted using the mag force z.

is the tension knob hard to move?

On some of the Diawa reels it can be, but it's not difficult. I have mine with maybe 1-2 mm of play, brakes are set on 6 to 8 depending on lure weight. I also have the 150, 200, and 3 of the 100 reels..

The side to side play I posted is Wrong..should be .010-.015..play not 1-2 mm..Sorry.

The zero adjuster is a gimmick, IMO. Yes, it's harder than usual to rotate the tension knob. Adjust it to where you want the tension and don't worry about it, even a little.

A gimmick for anyone used to baitcast reels, but I'd imagine a help to those just starting out.  One less thing to figure out.

1mm is .037, spool end post shouldn't exceed .010, no reason for a spool shaft to move back and forth more then a few thousandths to compensate fo temperature changes that can affect clearance and lubrication viscosity.

O.k. I mis stated the spool play measurement earlier. I'm still not all that accurate when is comes to mm..So mine is probably around .010-,015..I'm sorry if I mislead anyone.

Bait casting reels that had spring type spool end play adjustments required more adjustment. The legacy Ambassasdor reels had 2 adjustment knobs, 1 on each end of the spool shaft with shims and knobs with indent springs to keep them from back off.

I got a tatula elite for Christmas this year. It has the same zero adjuster on it. Mine actually came a little tight from the factory. I loosened mine up until I felt spool play and then just tightened back up a smidge. I have no problems bombing spinnerbaits/crankbaits with it. It may seem really loose on spool tension (rate at which bait drops will be really quick if you're not used to it) but I have only backlashed once due to line with crappy memory. I don't even have to thumb the spool either except at the end of the cast. Seeing how the tatula elite uses a similar design to the tatula 100 I would have to imagine it is a really good reel. I love my tatula elite.

From what I have gathered Diawas stance is the breaks will compensate no matter if the tensioner is a little loose or tight.

I didn't have any issues at all with casting with a little play in the spool when I was playing around with mine it just felt a little smoother to me when I backed mine up a hair.

Mine cast great right out of the box, no need to adjust them.
