Have a chance to perhaps purchase a nice used Mossyback 803c.  I have never had this model or any JWR series.  I have now and really like my MBR783C and CR722.  I don’t really need it but I love the classic look of these rods. I do have an extra reel kicking around now so it could be paired with maybe my curado dc or Calcutta 200gtb to make an extra combo.  So who has experience with this rod and it’s uses? I realize it’s a jig and worm rod but if it worked ok for whopper plopper, spinner bait, frog, senko etc would be nice as a secondary to my MBR. As it stands now my MBR783 does anything heavier or single hooked and my CR722 does treble hooked topwaters, jerks, small cranks etc. Spinning combos fill in the rest. I fish Mostly smallmouth in lighter cover up here in Canada. It’s a decent price and a neat rod but if its not a useful or awesome rod it’s not worth it... so just wanted some experience or opinions on it

I bought a Mossyback spinning rod back in 2007 and sold it in 2008.  I liked it but it was strange compared to other rods.  It seemed more powerful at the end of rod and stiffer further up than most bass rods at the same power.  It made casting accuracy difficult with the light lures that the rod was rated for.  Also, it was not as sensitive as the IMX rods I had at the time.  If I had to pick a true purpose for the rod I had, it would be deep vertical jigging which seems odd to me in a spinning rod.  In the end, I picked up a St. Croix Avid M X-fast to replace it.  I still have it till this day.

On the other hand.... I have the 803C GLX and it is fine rod.  I like the length and action but wish it was slightly more sensitive (more like the 783C GLX I have).

Thanks I wondered about that. I bought a fibre blend “walleye series” loomis spinning rod and then sold it for similar reason.  Beautiful rod but just never felt right to me.  Im kind of thinking I just wait it out and save up for a second MBR783C but get a GLX this time. That rod gets such great recommendations everywhere I see it I keep coming back to wanting one

This isnt a frog rod. If you plan to fish cover it wont rip spinnerbaits out of the weeds either. Would make a great senko rod, or a good jig rod within its limitations. These have a fast tip and fish about a half power lighter than rated, in my opinion. One of the best Loomis rods when used within its limitations.
