Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 22, 2020 Global Moderator Posted March 22, 2020 Are you looking for a spinning or baitcasting rod? Not sure why you'd absolutely "need", an XF rod. They may be nice for some presentations, but being young and on a limited income, you're better off buying more multipurpose rods. I'm not sure if you handed me a fast and an XF rod I'd be able to tell the difference between the 2 honestly. 1 Quote
mrpao Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I ran out of breath reading your one sentence paragraph. On the bright side, glad you have a passion for the sport of fishing. There are many decent rods out there in the $100 price range. You will just have to go and hold them to see which ones you like and is comfortable in your hand. Quote
kayaking_kev Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 I have a SLX 7'2 MH/XF and the tip is pretty fast, but the balance isn't good on them. The Lew's Hank Parker Speed Stick for $40 from Walmart is rated as fast, but it might be the fastest rod I have and it's pretty sensitive for the price. 1 Quote

I agree and at $40 it is the deal of the decade for what you get at that price. For $50 you could get the Lew’s Laser SG1 it’s another fantastic budget rod. 2 Quote
Mbirdsley Posted March 22, 2020 Posted March 22, 2020 Abu Garcia veritas ( sp) has a preatty quick Tip For $99 and felt pretty good in my hands any how. It came in 2nd place when I was looking for a heavy pitching rig. Another 20 bucks you could get a st.croix bassx. The bassx is what I ended up getting 1 Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted March 23, 2020 Super User Posted March 23, 2020 Don't know about the new ones, but take a look at the Berkley Lightning...not the Shock. Still occasionally use the one I've had for over 40 years. Lot of cheaper rods have softer tips. Check out the Aird X. It gets excellent reviews. H2O Ethos is another possibility. At $100 I like my Fenwick HMGs. The Fenwick Eagle rods at $70 also get good reviews. I'm sure others can add to these options. Good luck and to the forum. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 23, 2020 Super User Posted March 23, 2020 ^ I second the Aird-X rods. I have 4 in my arsenal and they're actually very good rods for the price. Quote
NathanDLTH Posted March 23, 2020 Posted March 23, 2020 If you’re okay with, buy used. There are killer deals out there in the used market. If my budget was 100 or under- SLX, fury, Arid-X are the rods I would look at. Quote

Super User WRB Posted March 23, 2020 Super User Posted March 23, 2020 Welcome BR. You will find budget rods at local tackle shops and on sale locally through personal sales via the Internet like LetGo. Shipping fishing rods is expensive so it's better to look around locally for a higher end used rod. You need to do your homework to educate yourself what rods the past 5 years were popular and try to find one being discounted or being sold locally. Tom 3 Quote

It is the 703C All Purpose model. Weight 4.02 oz. So fairly light. I picked up one recently, but haven't used it yet. Nice looking rod. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 24, 2020 Super User Posted March 24, 2020 I have a BPS JOHNNY MORRIS 7-6 flipping stick with an extra fast tip and there is no mistaking it for anything but extra fast. Quote

The 2.0 most definitely is not an extra fast in the medium heavy it loads deeper then my lews cranking rod Quote

Steve S Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 Should go to local tackle shop and see if they have a clearance section. I’ve gotten Daiwa Tatula and a Falcon Bucoo SR for 50% off. You can also look for sales. I know scheels just had SLX rods for half off. Just be patient and the right rod will come along. Quote

People seem to ignore Dicks , and while i’ll probably never buy a *** Fishing Rod again (lol get it) i got the obnoxious green one for like 67 bucks last year in a pinch when i was out of town and needed a heavy power rod i could flip and frog with and not care if it broke. It actually surprised me as a good rod in a pinch. Quote
greentrout Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 another outstanding budget rod with 54 million-modulus graphite blank is Cabela's Fish Eagle II ... 69.99 ... good fishing Quote
Ogandrews Posted May 17, 2020 Posted May 17, 2020 I would look at Shimano SLX, st croix bass X, and dobyns fury’s. Those three are the best $100 rods around in my opinion, each line has their own set of rods that are the best for the price point imo. Quote
