rboat Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 It seems harder to find maintenance free starting batteries. Everyone sells the deep cycle ones for trolling. Anyone have a suggestion for a maintenance free starting battery that is reasonable? Thanks. Quote
rboat Posted March 4, 2020 Author Posted March 4, 2020 Yes, The type that you do not have to add water. I believe they are AGM type. I do not like always adding water with spills, possible tipping, overfilling, boiling over, etc. The closed cell batteries also seem to last much longer. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 Have you tried an Auto Parts Supply store like Auto Zone or O’Reillys? Quote

Optimas are really popular, particularly with the off-road crowd (they hold up well to vibration). There are a bunch of other ones too - Napa https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NBP9834M?partTypeName=Battery+-+Commercial+Gel+%2f+Marine+Gel&keywordInput=agm+batteries and others carry them, but most of the in-stock ones are Optimas. I did see an Exide spill-proof at BJ's Wholesale one time - I think it was right around $125. Quote
tander Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Go to Walmart, they got some good batteries at a good price. 1 Quote
PourMyOwn Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 If you do go major auto parts retailer, advance auto has a 20% coupon. You buy online, pick up in store and save 20 percent. It's how I buy all my batteries. 1 1 Quote
Shimano_1 Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Not a fan of optimas but the Duracell ones at Sam's are hard to beat for the money Quote

If you have an account I have found that if you browse for a few minutes but don't buy one they will send you an email offering 25% off. My current starting battery is from Advance because of their 25% discount code. 1 Quote

Ppennin986 Posted March 4, 2020 Posted March 4, 2020 Keep in mind that agm batteries charge different than regular acid batteries if you have a on board battery charger 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted March 4, 2020 Super User Posted March 4, 2020 A little expensive, but can be had cheaper..I use dual purpose for cranking https://www.odysseybatteries.com/marine.htm Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 Duracell 31 AGM at Sam's Club. They might still be on sale for $159 (usually $179) and are absolutely the best bang for the buck even at full price. Quote
