hey guys -

i've done my research and i'm looking to pick up a helix 9 with G3N and mega + imaging -- but which would you go with for the helm; DI or Both DI and SI? and why?

i'm torn on the SI since i really don't think i'd use it as much as i'd use the DI since, i'm new-ish to reading sonar/screens anyway. (SI seems tough to read)

*i'm not running a unit up front for the time being...looking to first get this, THEN get a fortrex/ulterra with spotlock to network to it.

Thanks for the opinions in advance

I have & prefer 'everything' at the wheel.

Really can't go wrong.

Although you may be 'new-ish to reading sonar screens' now, that will not last very long after your purchase.

Then you may be wishing you had it 'all'.

Easy to decide now, harder to change later.

Good Luck

nice setup -- i keep going back and forth on the size. that 10 looks awesome...hmm. lol do you like the size and speed of your unit?

i'm also going to pick up the lake/strikemaster memory card - regardless of what unit i pick up.

I just recently bought a new boat and chose the Helix 8 with Mega SI/DI at the console. Only regret is I wish I would have went with the 10. I use split screen with DI/Sonar on the left top/bottom and SI on the right side of the screen. Sure would be nice to have a bigger screen.

A lot like Trolling motors, deep cycle batteries & Outboard Motors, bigger is better.

For me, screen size is directly related to the 'detail' the unit is able to offer me.

These units have incredible detail and the largest screen I can have enables me to see it best; especially with Old Guy Eyes.

I like the clean appearance of flush mounted units, which admittedly have both advantages & disadvantages.

Either way the 10" screen is max for the console.

Also the unit pictured was replaced last summer with the G3N, which I REALLY Like.

And Mapping cards are a must.

I just bought the BPS Helix 10" on sale for $999 (or at least ordered it)

I didn't really need mega down and side, I already have a Helix 7 G2N on the front and don't see the need for mega, but do know that if you don't buy both SI and DI, you will always wonder "what if?"

But.. that being said, I thought that the 10" version was that much better than the 9" due to the pixel resolution. Someone can chime in on the G3N versions.
