Which reel should I get for my birthday?

Hey guys. My birthday is coming up very soon and I'm torn between a few reels I can barely afford?. I'm not sure between the SLX XT, SLX DC, or the Tatula SV. If you guys could help me out with deciding, that would be much appreciated. Also, if you're feeling generous and happen to have a reel that you wouldn't mind giving away, HMU. Thanks and tight lines!

I’d get the SLX the regular SLX, it’s lighter and lower. Upgrade the spool bearings if you’re not afraid of speed. If price is a factor, it’s a no brainer. I know many will disagree, but IMO, the SV label is way overpriced and overrated for what you get to have those two letters on the reel.

Personally, I think the Tatula SV is kind of a no brainer out of those. However, if money is tight I could see going with a SLX and using the extra cash to buy some new lures as well.

I am a big Shimano fan but out of the ones you picked I would go with the Tatula SV.   You really can't go wrong with any of them though.

Tatula sv. It is my favorite baitcaster. Also probably one of the best reels for skipping baits.

Another vote for the SV. You can find them for pretty reasonable with the newer models starting to come out.

Newer Tatula SV model is leaner/lighter.  The SV spool will allow you to throw lighter lures, skip, etc.  A reel you’d have a long time and likely not look back..

I bought and returned the slx dc. casts well but the dc sound wasn't for me. I then bought the tatula sv for the versatility to cast lighter baits and i love it.  I own two other tatulas which like the sv all have the t- wing line guide and one thing to consider if you tie longer leaders the knots tend to get hung up in it. If I could go back and spend the extra money to upgraded from my slx xt to a slx DC I would no doubt.  I've used the DC on my curado and loved it. If you find it comfortable in hand I would go for it.  That being said no complaints with the xt. Just not as dumby proof.

 

Thay being said. If you are looking to throw light stuff the tatula SV may be the way to go. but anything standard or heavy you cant to wrong with the dc

I own a couple Tatula SVs and love them.  Most I have paid for one brand new is $150.  I also have couple of the Tatula CTs and it’s a great real and can be found in the $90 range.

I recently got a Tatula 150 on a nice sale through Sportsman’s Outfitters for $99. Haven’t gotten to take it out yet but it feels really solid. I’m also in the process of getting a Curado K and SLX DC before the season starts. I really just want to give the DC tech a try and the SLX seems like a good entry level. I think it really comes down to whether or not you think the DC tech will benefit you.
