Loomis glx MBR Taper?

I know the JWRs are very fast, so does that mean the MBRs are equivalent to most other companies Fast action? For example, I own a Dobyns DX743C which is a fast action rod. My understanding is that the MBRs should be slower than this rod? Is that true?  I’m confused because people compare the MBRs to the JWR tapers which are made to be super fast.

The mag bass rods are more of a moderate fast action. They are very versatile handling single hook baits as well as treble hook baits.

I would call the classic MBR a fast action. In my opinion they are the best action rods ever made. They are great for tons of bass fishing applications. I would say they are a little faster than the Dobyns fast action.

I have 3 of the MBR rods, 783 GLX, 844 GLX and the 844 IMX.  The GLX rods seem a little softer but not much.  The 783 GLX is probably my most favorite rod.  It can pretty much do just about anything. 

 

Personal opinion, the MBR's are less fast (softer) than the JWR rods.  To me, it's not even a close comparison.

Do you mind sharing what techniques you use for each? 

 

I've got a couple JWR rods, with the newest being an 853c NRX. 

 

I'd like to try some MBR rods as I've always heard great things.

I have the 803C GLX and I use it for T-Rigged soft plastic and jigs (around 1/2oz).  

 

The 783 GLX is kind of an all purpose rod and also the most sensitive of the batch. I use it mainly for jerkbaits but I also use it for senkos.

 

The 844 IMX is used for topwater and frogs but works great for heavy spinnerbaits as well.

 

The 844 GLX is used for heavier T-rigged soft plastic and pitching jigs (but there are better rods for pitching though).  This rod is also super sensitive.

You guys are killing me here. One guy says they are faster, the next says they are slower and one says they are the same.

I really want to get my hands on an 843 MBR, either an IMX-Pro or a GLX, but here in Portugal Loomis is distribuited by Normark (the same company that has Shimano, Rapala, Storm, Luhr-Jensen, etc. in their catalog) but the rumor is that Shimano wants to bypass Normark and enter the western European market themselves - according to my local tackle store - and they're in a bit of a limbo right now when it comes to special orders.

 

I'll be ordering one as soon as this is settled.

 

P.S. To be completely honest, it was only after watching Matt Allen raving on about them that I asked my tackle store about ordering an MBR
