The Bassman Posted January 25, 2020 Posted January 25, 2020 This was a pretty hot topic three years ago so I decided to bring it up again. I was one like some others who initially saw some merit in this line. Over time durability issues put me in another direction. Being the definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results) I'm giving it another shot. So I spooled on some 18 lb. pink. Just came in from a brief outing in 30's weather with very little open water. Did manage to catch three with one a solid 2.5 lb. Of course it casted great and was perfect for nedding. Still can't get it out of my head that this stuff is going to be fragile. Is any one else using it? Some of our guys loved it three years ago. Wondering what the current take on it is. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 25, 2020 Super User Posted January 25, 2020 While I did fish this stuff for a while and did like some of the characteristics of Gliss, I had to move on. As mentioned below (By you in fact) the line degraded too quickly for me. Additionally, there have been some new 'versions' of braided line introduced since 2015. I have been duly impressed with Power Pro Maxcuatro Spectra Braided Line in Moss Green as well as Seaguar Smackdown Braided Line. I am still working my way through a couple of bulk spools of Sufix 832 - and since I do not use as much braid as I have in the past (mostly spinning gear now) it will be a while before that supply is expended; which is a good thing. However once it's time to reload, I'll probably be reaching for the other two products mentioned above. Unless of course, something else new comes down the pike. YMMV A-Jay A lot of good info here 3 1 Quote
Yumeya Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 I've never tried it, I usually run P-Line tcb 8 in 10lb on most my spinning rods. I did however seen some Spiderwire ultra cast 8 in 6lb test that looked and felt really good, I might try it out soon. Its starting to warm up a bit and the Ice will be gone soon I think, in a way it kinda sucks because I've been having a blast ice fishing... Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 26, 2020 Global Moderator Posted January 26, 2020 It was great for Ned rigs, for a couple months, then it starts to "poof" and any little breeze catches it, tying knots is more difficult, and strength goes way down. It's too pricey for me to do it over again. Smackdown is so nice, and cast so far without the "poof" issues, and durability is way better. Once winter is over I'll be putting some of the Flash Green on my Ned rig rod I believe. 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted January 26, 2020 Super User Posted January 26, 2020 Yes the line frayed easily on this line even just from rubbing the guides, but have any one got broke off from it? I still have one 24lb spool on my UL baitcaster. The thing that steered me away from using in spinning is wind knot. Once that happen it is gonna be hard to fix, and would make the line even weaker after fixed. I like the line enough for sensitivity and sink rate, it seems to cut through water pretty well, way better than braid line. I use this line mostly for crappie, I use trilene knot when tie direct or double uni (6 wraps on Gliss, 4 on leader) with 4-6lb leader. No problem so far. Will I use it again, MAY BE, but not for bass for sure. I don’t see the need of Gliss line for bass and it might not worth on the troubles. Sufix 832 is what I plan to use for bass exclusively. 1 Quote
The Bassman Posted January 26, 2020 Author Posted January 26, 2020 Thanks guys. I bought three spools on sale, 18,24, and 40. I put the 40 an my Ald 50 with Avail spool for light apps. (The 40 is more like 20 lb. braid) I'll use it and reverse it until it's all fuzzed. I do like how quiet it is. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted January 26, 2020 Super User Posted January 26, 2020 I still use 18 with 8# leader on most of my spinning reels Quote
livin2fish Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 I have one baitcaster with 40# to 8# leader. Like it except for the durability (fuzzies) issues mentioned. Tried it on spinning but wind knots were the problem. There are better options so probably will not buy more. Quote
Preytorien Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 I've enjoyed using it on spinning reels in the past. It does fray after some time, which makes it nice that it's not expensive. That said, I'm getting ready to try some Hitena Pureline to continue my obsession with finding great superlines. It's expensive as heck, but if it gives me small diameters with better abrasion resistance, I'm all for it. I'll let you know later in the year my findings. 1 Quote

Just keep in mind that line strength is directly in proportion to diameter. JDM 10 lb. is just that. USDM 10 might in fact be greater than 20 lb. because it's thicker. Gliss is so thin because it's way under its stated ABS. I'll look forward to your findings. I know that 4 carriers aren't as popular, but Fins Windtamer has a 4 lb. that I use that has an ABS in the teens and casts great. It's been my go to for winter presentations. Quote
