Last time I went to Dick's was because they had some deep discounts on Z-Man stuff at the one close to the office. Bought some chatterbaits. Meh.

Dicks is headquartered here in Pittsburgh and they're currently in the process of closing up (and clearancing out) their entire fishing and hunting section. My local Dicks up and packed their entire fishing section in one day and sent it over to the local Field and Stream store. They're clearancing out the hunting/guns section before they move whatever is left over to F&S as well. They've been doing that here since New Years.

From what the guys in the hunting section told me, they're going to put something else in all the stores that sells better than the hunting/fishing stuff. All the hunting sections should be gone in our region by spring from what the employees have been told.

I went to my local DSG last week because I had some time to kill.  There was no gun or hunting section but the fishing section was quite complete.  As others said there weren't many people in the store or cars in the parking lot.  Ocala, FL.

If it wasnt for my local fishing store that only plans on being open 3 days a week this year, the closest thing to me besides DSG in regards to fishing gear, within 90 minutes, is Wal-Mart

X2.  We just lost Gander, and it looks like DSG isn't far behind.  Certainly not my first choice when buying tackle and gear but if I needed something in a pinch I could find something that would make due until my online order arrived.

The closest Field and Stream seemed to be taking all the DSG inventory and it is also now a Sportsman's Warehouse, although the only change was the sign on the building.  Either way I have to make arrangements to get there, or Cabela's.

90% of my purchases are from TW, but sometimes I just like to see something/have it in hand before buying.  Maybe that's just me.

I try to stay away from DSG, but if I need something now - a 20 minute drive is better than a 50 minute drive to get to the closest Cabelas. Closest F&S is 350 miles from me. I've noticed the local DSG is slimming down the fishing and hunting sections a bit...but nothing like what I'm hearing here.

Dick's has always been a letdown to me here in Indy since they bought our local sg retailer, Galyans back in '03 or '04. Galyan's was an institution around here that really catered to the outdoorsman.

My 2 local stores have been downsizing their fishing and hunting for a few months now. Sucks because the only other store we had (French Creek Outfitters if you’re in SE Pa) is closing their doors as well. Pretty much leaves me with a poor selection at Walmart or an hour trip to Cabelas.

My wife and I stopped in a DSG yesterday since she was wanting a new exercise bike. We actually did have someone come over and try to help us. The only way to get one she wanted was to order it online. We then walked over to the fishing dept. Found out it has very little in it now. I have more stuff for fishing than they do. Looked like the hunting section was about gone too. I am about 10 minutes from Sportsmans Warehouse and Cabelas. I will still buy from our local tackle shop when I can.

You and I are from basically the same  neighbor hood. I hated to hear about French Creek Outfitters to some degree. But that place has been on a real slide for awhile. They have not had a good selection in a few years. Plenty of stuff guys didn’t want. Their selection of decent rods and reels has not been there for a couple of years.

They were good for Salty Spiders and SS components. But I’ll get around that. I Recently wanted them to order something for me and they sort of blew me off. Sort of glad I got blown off, better than getting stiffed out of $200.

I should have put two and two together when their Zoom selection went down to nothing A long time ago. Oh well nothing last forever.

Have a Dicks 50 miles from us. fishing department is small. I think most shopped at for other sports. The flash sales they have are a joke just like the fishing department. Same stuff same price over and over

Cabela's/BPS or I just order in bulk from tackle warehouse. DSG hasn't been relevant in years.

Grateful we've got Academy Sports a few blocks down street from them that actually respects the second Amendment ?

DSG is the only game in town around here. Hour drive to Field and Stream More than 4 hours to the nearest Bass Pro.

It will be sad if the only place I can get fishing stuff will be at Walmart.

This is the reality for so many of us in the Northeast.  No academy or any other sporting goods stores...

I buy 90% of my fishing needs online. But within 20 minutes of me for "quick need-it-right-now" purchases I have 2 DSG stores and 2 Walmarts. The DSG stores are not great but are hands down better than the Walmarts.

I will be a little sad if the DSG fishing departments start looking like my Walmarts.

Slide down to Jake's, love that store. Brian.

I'm with some of the above.  When they decided they were choosing sides and were so public with their opinions I decided I wont ever spend another dime at dicks. Used to go quite a bit for everything from clothes to ammo and fishing stuff. They're welcome to make their business decisions how they sit fit. In my opinion they basically spit on probably half of their customers with the decisions they made. Kinda seems like a weird deal tho for a sporting goods store to do what they've done.

Unfortunately I live closer to Hagerstown and rarely get to Winchester, but I've heard great things about that store. I need to get my butt down there!!

Like most of you guys it is a bit of a hike to go to Bass Pro Shop or Cabela's. I use to enjoy going there. Not sure if its just me or not but I think they slipped off when the started to push their branded items. I'm not interested in all the XPS Lures, Line and BPS Worms and all. Cut back on that stuff and put real tackle manufacturers in the stores and go back to being full line dealers. But maybe it's just me.

It's like they are overcharging for the name brand stuff knowing people will still buy it at a huge mark up and then offering their brand items at a slight discount over others normal price.  The problem is, they stay a few years behind the curve and allow other online retailers kick their prices butts.

The DSG near me has always been pitiful when it comes to a decent fishing dept. This store has been catering to runners, joggers and fitness center members ever since they opened.

I have a dicks within a mile, bass pro within a mile, walmart within 3, and academy within 10. I buy most stuff at academy. Bass pro has the best selection around here hands down but you pay for it. Dicks has the least selection, and you still pay for. Sometimes more than bass pro!! So I go to Walmart and what I cant find there I go to academy.

When they cleared out the gun section I asked if they are going to expand the fishing section now, the guy said yeah big time. Wrong. They made it smaller!!! The ONLY thing I've bought from dicks is a pack of bobbers for panfishing.

Also alot like others said, the place is always a ghost town. For customers and employees!

Right!!!! Their sales just make the stuff the same price I can get it at academy at full price!!! They are a massive joke!!

Ugh. I can't stand DSG but they were my only option for a lot of stuff.

Really wish Academy would open something closer to Pittsburgh.

this makes two of us. I live in NY and DSG has a good amount of stuff here besides Walmart and ordering stuff from TW. AC needs to open stores up here.

I went to DSG in Greenville for the first time a few months ago and I was surprised how small the fishing section was compared to my old, smaller DSG in Bluffton. I also went into Acedemy once or twice in Greenville, but was not impressed with the selection. So I guess Cabela's will be my go to store - or one of the 6 Wal Marts in the area,

Dick's is ridiculously overpriced for just about everything. About the only time I buy something there is when it's on sale.
