Hey all,

I'm looking for my second baitcast setup and would like to stick with Lews, but not sure which reel to go with. I have the Tournament MB 7.5:1 and was thinking about pairing that with a Heavy rod to mainly flip and jig fish with.

But I'm looking for a MH setup to throw moving baits with. The Mach Crush looks like a solid setup but wanted to get your opinions. Would like to spend $150 or less on the rod/reel. What would you build in this price range?

Thanks in advance!

I love Lews but don't like the mach Crush or any other composite framed reel. I would buy the lfs for $99 and put it on a carbonlite rod. Wait until they go on sale.

Dobyns Colt 705CB ($80)

13 Fishing Defy Black Crankbait ($60)

Lew's David Fritz Perfect Crankbait ($80)

Daiwa Fuego CT ($75)

Abu Garcia Pro Max ($50)

I'm partial to Daiwa.  Fuego CT $70 at Sportsman's Outfitters.  FFO has the Ike Signature 7' MF 1/4-3/4 oz. for $65 (reg. $129.95).  Aird X ($55) gets excellent reviews.  Bionic Blade $80, Berkley Lightning $35, Cherrywood $25.

EDIT:  Personally I think you would need to up your budget a bit for a good Lew's combo.  Speed Spool LFS and TP-1 = $200 unless you can find them on sale somewhere.

Amazon has the 6'8" Jerkbait/Topwater for $77.39 with Prime.

LH or RH reel?  Speed Spool LFS LH 6.8:1 $73.30 with Prime.

The Lew's Speed Spool LFS comes in a combo now. I would suggest that.

I have the Mach Crush combo and recommend it and the Mach 2 combo as well.

The lfs combo is $129 at Sportsmans outfitters. 7.5 to 1 reel. That's a deal.

I liked the MB model so much I bought two more. It's an excellent reel for jigs. But I think it has been discontinued. I guess the Tournament MP replaced it. But that reel is $20 more. I bought the top of the line Academy store brand reel, the TAC-40, for my pitching combo. I like it a lot too. It seems to be very good quality for $99. It's very light and low profile. That took a little getting used to. I don't think it holds more than 70 yards of line. A small capacity spool just feels right for pitching and skipping to me. It feels like you get a $120-130 reel for under $100.
