I had a Minn Kota Maxxum 70 pound installed a couple months ago.  While on the water yesterday in a very stumpy area with winds out of the north at 15mph, I struck a stump with the trolling motor and the steering seems to have locked up on it.  It's cable driven and was manufactured in 2019.  The motor has power and runs all speeds fine.

I pulled the plate off of the bottom of foot pedal to inspect cables.  They were tight there.  I pulled the cap off of the head unit and the cables are tight there.  I moved the shaft up and down, but right were the bracket that holds the shaft in place is located is slightly bent.

Is it supposed to be bent?  That's the only thing that I figure is making the steering to be shot.  I can turn the unit by hand with force.

If I remember correctly, the shaft is covered by warranty, right?  Thanks for any sensible input.

Bad luck. The rest of the shaft is composite so it can flex, but you managed to bend the upper part. I think you'll have to get it repaired with a new upper shaft.
